It seems stupid to me that the sphere packing problem is still not solved. In dimensions larger than 4 we ought to be able to simulate a large N-dimensional "ball pit", lubricating and virbrating it as appropriate in order to raise the lower bound on the kissing number.

I believe with this method we can raise the minimum bound on the sphere kissing number in dimension 5 to 41.
