That's not income. That's just a really weird way to report inflation. You need to know what the "typical american household" is and how much it consumes to make sense of this figure. I'm from Bulgaria (the poorest EU member state) and I have felt close to no change in the past decade. I can still make a giant homemade pizza of about 2000kcal for like $4, a kilo of pork is also $4 and can go up to $6 at most if not on sale. However this specific year, and the past few months, the price of seed oils has almost doubled and the price of anything containing protein that is not straight up meat (like dairy products) is on its way to doubling. I think that for all the alarmism that they've been hitting us up with since 2020, that 2024 is the actual year where shit will hit the fan. By 2025, life here will be close to impossible if you do not grow your own food or work a middle class job (which will be the new lower class in reality). Economics isn't a science, any more than feminist gender study is a science. It's a social theory
>B-but Destiny said that was a c-cringe take!
That changes nothing. The only good part of economics is mathematical modelling, because, and how surprising is this, math actually works, unlike social theory. The social theory of macroeconomics and microeconics has failes again and again to provide both descriptive, positive prescriptive or predictive results.

I don't blame economists. Psychologists fail too. The cognitive behavioral therapies, and other methods, are hardly any better than brain lobotomy. Read the stats. It's just infeasible to model human society like a bunch of actors on a planet.

>How do economic scientists calculate numbers like picrel?
Find the sum of all money printed at the beginning of the particular time period you care about.
Observe how much money is printed by the government in the particular time period you care about.
Calculate as a percentage what the newly printed money is of the money in already in existence.

This gives you the value of inflation. To determine how prices might be affected on top of this, factors like other countries banning the trade of your currency can change the value of your money because it restricts access to various assets in those banning countries.

Other fluctuations in prices can be explained by things like energy prices being increased by government environmental regulations, most products need significant energy to create, if energy prices rise, the cost producing the product will too.

The vast majority of the rise in prices is the result of some government intervention. The reducing in the value of the currency (inflation) is essentially all the fault of the native government.

The governments of the world are trying to be change the meaning of inflation to deflect blame from themselves.

- transport ships being scrapped to recover some money after a huge drop in consumption at the start of said pandemic which reduced transport capacity and therefore made it more expensive when consumption recovered
- a war happening involving an oil producer, and
