The insanity now is left-wing denial of all the negative side-effects of their programs. Basically any quality control process/metric that happens to highlight the degradation in quality from their programs is deemed racist/sexist.
They need to destroy/discredit any evidence of their failure. As a bonus, the destroy/discredit process usually casts someone as a victim (useful for rhetorical purposes) and creates jobs for their own (usually by infiltrating/reforming/regulating the body/process that spotted the issue).

Reflecting on a personal experience from a few years ago, during my MSc studies in a European country. Being part of a mixed class wasn't unexpected, considering the program's popularity. One might assume the best of the best would gather there. Admittedly, I might have some elitist tendencies, but there's a reason for that. Many individuals I encountered during the program, with whom I still maintain contact, now hold high-ranking positions. It makes me question the integrity of these institutions, where positions that one might expect to be filled by individuals known for their 'High IQ' have seemingly been occupied through what appears to be a diversity hire.
The issue arose during the program itself. These individuals would pose questions that seemed disconnected from our field of study, resembling queries I had encountered during my first year as an undergraduate. What baffled me more was the response of the professors. Instead of bypassing or providing genuine responses, they would often begin with, 'Oh, that's an interesting question...' which I interpret in one of two ways: a) the professors were of average intelligence and deemed these questions 'interesting' because those kind of questions were the only ones they could answer easily, or b) they intended to be encouraging, without caring what kind of individuals they would deliver to the scientific community once the program was over. When presented with a substantial question, the typical response was, 'This is a significant question, but we lack the time. How about you prepare a 10,000-word essay on this topic for next week?'. Turning actual enquiry to result in punishment.
It is okay to be mediocre as long as you as have experienced some kind of social discrimination. Details don't matter.

In grade school, predominantly Black schools have much lower standards than predominantly White schools. So it's easier to get good grades there. Given how many teachers publicly promote anti-White views, and seeing all the CRT and 1619 racism in schools, it's also likely that some teachers are biased in favor of Black students too.
Then they get affirmative action for college.
Then they get more affirmative action when applying to medical school.
Then they get even more affirmative action when being hired for residencies.

It's not racist to say that a Black resident will, on average, be significantly less qualified than a White resident at the same hospital. It's an objective fact. That's just how affirmative action works.
