Imagine we had those anti vaxx movements we have now back then, smallpox still would be around, hell because of anti vaxxers polio is starting to come back.

Vaccines don't stop diseases from being transmitted, they only confer a faster humoral response to infection.

that's not what the joke is.
The person who is entering a 'restoring faith in humanity competition' is in a competition to restore faith in humanity. i.e., they need to restore faith better than their opponent. However, our protagonist pictured has a horrified reaction, because his opponent is the second word on the wikipedia page for smallpox. He is horrified, presumably, because the second word on the wikipedia page for smallpox is a very difficult foe to beat in terms of restoring faith in humanity. so what this meme communicates is that the second word on the wikipedia page for smallpox is something that very effectively restores faith in humanity.

And this defeats his faith in humanity?
>>15915173
His "opponent" in your telling of the story is a word that should bolster his faith in humanity, thereby allowing him to win the competition.

>> No.15915217

>>15915201
the competition isn't about having your own faith bolstered, it is about trying to bolster the faith of the judges. whoever bolsters their faith better wins.
