Hypothetically speaking, would a reusable rocket with high test hydrogen peroxide and kerosene or methanol be viable? Sure, the ISP wouldn't be nearly as high, but a closed cycle design using catalyzed HTP to run the turbopumps should allow for a longer service life and be easier to control/throttle.
You also don't have to worry about any cryogenic containment for the fuel or oxidizer, making logistics easier for the ground staging.

Martin Marietta selected JP5-H2O2 as the cycle for their Black Horse spaceplane because the prop mixture is literally 85% oxidizer so it makes aerial refilling with one tanker easier. The downside is that H2O2 decomposes energetically when struck by cosmic rays so good luck shielding a depot of that on orbit.

Moreover, he said that over various 15-year periods NASA got the same amount of money, even when adjusted for inflation. I got numbers from wikipedia, put them into excel and got different results. The obviously got the most money during Apollo era, second one was 1988-2002, when they were building ISS.

>I'm also tired of people who think NASA is a civilian agency it's a civilian agency because Eisenhower wanted to distinguish the quote civil Space Program from the military space program as a response to the Soviet Union but in Practical terms NASA is a National Security Agency. It is there to demonstrate the superiority of the American way of doing important things over other approaches so that was Kennedy's goal during Apollo and it should be this nation's goal now in the era of the rise of China and president Xi in China who routinely makes statements public statements that the Western democracies are bankrupt, have lost their way, are decadent. He asserts his intention that China should be the world superpower.

If youre using /pol/ and arent dedicating your college education/career to spaceflight then you probably arent serious about it, or anything else for that matter.

STEM types naturally leave their political phase very quickly. And it's not because of not taking enough tranny ethics or because of money or because they become kiked. It's because when you're in these fields, you realize very quickly that you're indispensable to society. Even if your field isn't being heavily funded right now, a regime change won't really affect your quality of life.

Politics become just meaningless in respect to this. You realize those that cling to politics or regimes or anything are actually those lacking skills. Sure I don't want the society I live in to be garbage, but at the end of the day every single society on earth right now would provide a comfy life for me due to my autistic interests and skillsets.

Maos China largely didn't and your life as a physicist in the Soviet Union was fine. Maos China destroyed academics who ARE chained to society, but that is a separate class from STEM. China literally wouldn't be where it is right now if they had actually purged their engineering class. Instead, what everyone complains about, is the purging of academics which clearly doesn't have long term impacts on societies.

Similarly, the Soviet Union would not have been able to keep up with the West technologically if it was horrible for the upper levels of the STEM class. It was too easy for that group to escape and in fact many of them became or fed the oligarchs that ended up taking over indicating again that they were in positions to make those moves.

Talk about cratering the confidence in your own platform in one easy stroke after spending weeks and months talking about how its a robust system that requires an overwhelming amount of users to come together to create a note with verified users and requiring a lot of votes to bubble up to the top.

Jokes on me I guess, for believing that the platform would one day go on to be something important for the Moon or Mars; and jokes on me for thinking that he'd somehow dodge the Howard Hughes phase in full.

The "gotcha" part, as you didnt watch the thing, is NASA isn't a civilian program even, its part of national security tech program just like airforce/navy/darpa/spaceforce/etc. Its a wing to show off american technology and he believes as such must follow design/ownership rule that other branches of military follow. Thats on top of the fact that he believes current gen of nasa engineers do not have experience with building rockets and without such cannot be an effective judge of another's rocket.

What he wants is NASA(not congress/president) to get back the game of designing/building rockets and procuring services from companies that will build the hardware to NASA's spec. He says its not about increasing money as Apollo era did it with less money than current era, adjusting for inflation and 10/15 year chunks of programs. He doesn't buy into series/parallel funding. What he thinks is that American as a society lacks purpose and thus all the money is going to waste.
The big problem here is that this is a vague wishful thinking. His concerns about privatizing rocket industry is somewhat valid, but still its a matter of contracting. Just create a separate contract and buy the ship outright from SpaceX. I'm sure SpaceX can sell ships/designs/maintenance to US Gov directly, at a right price ofcourse. Its just currently its more cost effective to just buy a ride ticket instead of buying the whole rocket.

That's certainly the big thing I see. Starting with a comically overpowered vehicle so you can massively derate it certainly helps, but conventional EVs are designed with the hot bits, including any "radiators" (i.e. fluid-to-air heat exchangers), on the inside, with airflow directed to them. For radiative cooling, you need the hot bits exposed -- either provide a direct thermal path to body panels and let the whole thing heat up to 75C (or whatever), or use a fluid cooling loop with radiators (real ones) mounted externally. Either way it's a big overhaul.

Otherwise:
Suspension will need an overhaul, with lighter springs for sure; not sure about shock tuning.

if X goes bankrupt then it will trigger a lack of confidence in Elons other businesses which will also be fatal or near to it. Thats exactly why in 2008 he went all in on BOTH SpaceX and Tesla, becuase if Tesla collapsed then he would have had way less in terms of assets sloshing around to loan against, and more importantly the air of Musk invincibility would vanish and people would stop investing in his infinite cash loss companies. The entire business model around Musk is that sure the company will keep losing money, but it will grow and never fail.

A userbase is not a revenue stream and it's not cheap to run. X does need to turn a profit eventually. It was on a pretty sad track prior to Elon's purchase, but advertisers and Elon are busy fighting over who holds the power in this particular relationship: the platform operator, or the advertisers and the groups who want to take advantage of advertisers to enforce their will on others? That's all this comes down to, in the end.

>> No.15916965

>>15916953
Revenue stream will come from users in the end. Current transition looks painful but thats to be expected as you need to wean off of the corruption. But the path forward is there, user subscription rate is going up, usage is going up, they get ~10M new users per month, etc. On top of that, their financial services should be getting ready soon. Various states are delaying the license to operate for political reasons, but they'll have to give in sooner or later.

>> No.15916966

>>15916965
Also don't forget, only the paranoid survive in the end. There are contingencies planned. Musk is worth $250B today. Losing $40B is nothing to him, if it means paying off the entire twitter debt himself. Even if that translates to him losing $100B networth due to stock fluctuations, it means he still has $150B + the complete ownership of X, which will generate billions per year due to financial services + subscriptions.

Plus not all advertisers are boycotting. Only the big establishment ones are that are strongly aligned with Biden admin are. There will still be ~50% still using the platform, even if you exclude all the communists.

Helicity Space, a space fusion propulsion startup, nabbed a $5M seed round to develop its novel engine

How it works:
-- Plasma jets are shot along a track in its engine.
--The jets merge and compress, heating up to fusion condition of 100 million degrees Fahrenheit.
-- The fusion reaction fuses deuterium (hydrogen) atoms, resulting in energy for direct thrust

Lots of work ahead: Helicity is shooting for a protoflight in 2032 and self-sustaining engines in 2040. However, when operational, it could propel a spacecraft to Mars in two months, Jupiter in one year, and interstellar space in just ten years
