Yes of course, it's quite sad when you think about it, back in the day humanity was willing to throw the equivalent to millions of dollars and scores of lives to build a cathedral through the course of decades despite it not really having any practical value other than psychological comfort and some tourism, nowadays try to get money for a project which may require more than 5 years in the making from private investors.
