NZfag here. My gfs mother is a high school teacher and is terminally blackpilled on the education system. Talking to her about her students and she basically describes them as lobotomised robots. She showed me some of the national standard papers that 14-15 year olds were sitting. Damn it was WILD. The maths paper had literal fucking counting questions, basic multiplication and a lot of the questions were massively ESL, hard to even figure out what some of them wanted you to do. The English paper had basically nothing to do with actual English, a significant amount of it was facebook and twitter screenshots, asking the students to analyse the fucking emoji reaction ratios. Looking forward to these lil dudes trying to maintain oil refineries, power plants and other complicated technology lmao it is SO over.

I think letting your kids stay on tablets and phones for hours is a form of neglect. hard to avoid after a certain age I'm sure, but you can try to instill more positive habits in younger kids. look what TV did to boomers. this is orders of magnitude worse.

one thing I think is a nice balance is only letting them watch youtube videos of things they're going to do in real life. like games and tricks and recipes and crafts. and they cant just cycle through them mind numbingly, set boundaries and help them find one that looks fun. it's the least you can do, and doesn't force you to be a luddite. people should be talking more seriously about it, but I think everyone's ashamed because of the convenience of a tablet babysitter. so even if book is from 1950, it can still be found in the library, it just needs to be reprinted. and yes ofc some books simply arent avaiable in reprints, but that is caused either by copyright issues or lack of demand. so in practice this will effectively remove some old obscure books from library shelves forever, but its not like this wasnt happening all the fucking time. all libraries have cycles where they dispose of old books which are either physically falling apart or nobody borrowed them for last X years.

I actually made a point of seriously reading Mein Kampf when I was at University. Not for any other reason other than just curiosity, since people seemed to make a big deal out of it.
It read like the disjointed musings of some capable but immature 16 year old. Random thoughts jotted down, and then expanded upon with a few extra paragraphs of fluff as after thoughts. For page after page beginning to finish.
I was honestly surprised when I learned it was banned in some places and attracted such notoriety.

I was of the opinion that if anyone wanted to destroy the reputation of Hitler as some great leader then you would do the opposite and make it recommended reading, the point being to say "look at the insubstantial and whimsical thought processes of this peasant thug"

Some years later, after becoming a healthy cynic, I actually began to wonder if the contents of the book was actually a fabrication. Done deliberately to make Hitler look like an idiot. Perhaps to further his infamy, or to dissuade those who sought the book as a serious study to regard him as a merely mediocre tyrant who happened to be in the right place at the right time to rise to power

More years later, having become a hardened and bitter cynic I concluded, no, there probably was no fabrication or 4D chess going on. I had by that time learned ( rather late in life admittedly ) that the general population are in fact a pack of stupid and easily manipulated idiots and that such a book would be regarded by many of them, in the right circumstances, with the same reverence as a holy bible.
