>Past the outer rim, into the unknown: structures beyond the Kuiper Cliff
>Although the present-day orbital distribution of minor bodies that go around the Sun between the orbit of Neptune and the Kuiper Cliff is well understood, past ~50 au from the Sun, our vision gets blurred as objects become fainter and fainter and their orbital periods span several centuries. Deep imaging using the largest telescopes can overcome the first issue but the problems derived from the second one are better addressed using data analysis techniques. Here, we make use of the heliocentric range and range-rate of the known Kuiper belt objects and their uncertainties to identify structures in orbital parameter space beyond the Kuiper Cliff. The distribution in heliocentric range there closely resembles that of the outer main asteroid belt with a gap at 70 au that may signal the existence of a dynamical analogue of the Jupiter family comets. Outliers in the distribution of mutual nodal distances suggest that a massive perturber is present beyond the heliopause.

It's a lot more than disagreement. With the purchase of twitter and the release of twitter files, his push back on censorship, the twitter spaces with Vivek and Kennedy, the battle with ADL, the criticism for Soros/BlackRock/Vanguard etc. etc. he has actually done a lot more to fight the deep state than Trump ever did. I really worry for elon sometimes, and for ourselves if he ever cracks

All he did was provide communication to an invaded country. And a large body of people hate him because he didn't provide starlink for weapons use, while also hating him because as an individual he has so much influence over the war, but if he allowed starlink to be used for weapons, he would have even more influence over the war. It makes no sense.

And the US could just buy military satellites for ukraine so they could do what they want without requiring a private individual to control it. But they criticize that too, because it's not ok when the government buys something from elon either. But they won't make it themselves. So there's literally no way these people will ever be satisfied.

Also reminds me of the thai cave submarine that got out of hand, even though he made serious mistakes. Humanity is teaching him no good deed goes unpunished.

>> No.15730357

well yeah, they don't think he should be able to build a company that builds things they like because it means he gets rich while they don't. it's nonsensical zero sum thinking where sans Elon things would be precisely the same except SpaceX and the like would be nationalized or workers coops or something.

Marxist thought is the root of the conumdrum.

They dont think he deserve to be rich because marxism says rich = bad. Therefore Musk = rich = bad. Because he's bad, he must not deserve his money. If you dont deserve it, then it must mean he's a fraud. Therefore he just accidentally stumpled upon money through sheer dumb luck. But dumb luck isn't evil therefore he must be uhh semi-competent. If he's competent and he's rich, therefore he must be evil.

I'm serious. Thats how the chain of logic runs in their brain.

Atlas-5 launch in 25h

spaceflight now says it should be in a few hours, but it probably got delayed

>A United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket will launch the NROL-107 mission for the National >Reconnaissance Office. The NROL-107 mission will launch a classified payload known as Silentbarker. The mission is a partnership between the NRO and the U.S. Space Force, which have disclosed little information about the payload other than it will focus on satellite threat intelligence and space situational awareness.

> Virgin Galactic completes third commercial SpaceShipTwo flight

> The “Galactic 03” flight was the third commercial mission for Unity, after the Galactic 01 research mission June 29 and the Galactic 02 private astronaut flight Aug. 10. It was also the fourth suborbital flight for Unity in a little more than three months, when including a test flight in late May.

> However, unlike the previous two flights, the company did not disclose the identity of the private astronauts until after Unity landed. Traditionally, both government and private crewed missions, suborbital and orbital, flown from the U.S. have publicly named the full crews before launch, often weeks or months in advance. Virgin Galactic did not explain the secrecy surrounding the crew.

https://spacenews.com/viasat-researching-more-portable-satcoms-terminals-for-dismounted-soldiers/

> Viasat researching more portable satcoms terminals for dismounted soldiers

> A typical military satellite communications terminal is generally moved in a hard shell with various parts, which Awad said can make the packed system weigh anywhere from 28 to 34 kilograms.
> A modern soldier often carries equipment that’s close to 70% of typical body weight, according to Awad, hampering mission effectiveness and increasing injury risk.
> Awad stressed their research and development efforts are at a very early stage, and it is too soon to put a timeframe on development because they expect it to be a highly iterative and collaborative effort.
> The companies will initially focus on developing terminals connecting to Ka-band satellites in geostationary orbit.

Seems almost pointless compared to just using a LEO constellation for communication with its numerous benefits (need a smaller antenna, it has lower latency and probably higher bandwidth and SpaceX has demonstrated they are resistant against jamming etc attempts)

https://spacenews.com/new-report-recommends-space-force-change-how-it-buys-commercial-satellite-services/

> New report recommends Space Force change how it buys commercial satellite services

> WASHINGTON — The U.S. Space Force should overhaul its current approach to procuring commercial satellite communications services, the RAND Corp. recommends in a report published Sept. 6.
> RAND argues in the report that existing methods for procuring commercial satcom services inhibit the government from harnessing the full potential of commercial innovations.
> The Space Force, which acquires satellite services for the U.S. armed forces, has set a goal to rely on a “hybrid” network of commercial and military satcom systems so it can take advantage of emerging constellations in low, medium and geostationary orbits. But the way it buys services – under separate contracts with individual providers — does not provide the flexibility needed to create an integrated satcom enterprise, said the report.

The slow contracting with Starlink might not just be due to maliciousness from the biden admin, but perhaps just due to slow moving bureucracy (though the leaks from the biden admin were definitely malicious).

I believe space suits also use partial pressure high oxygen atmospheres.
I asked a similar question a few months ago and got called an idiot, but I think you could get away with pumping up the percentage of argon in the atmosphere really high without it being an issue to humans.

>“The rectum has a mesh of fine blood vessels just beneath the surface of its lining, which means that drugs administered through the anus are readily absorbed into the bloodstream,” said first author Ryo Okabe. “This made us wonder whether oxygen could also be delivered into the bloodstream in the same way. We used experimental models of respiratory failure in mice, pigs and rats to try out two methods: delivering oxygen into the rectum in gas form and infusing an oxygen-rich liquid via the same route.”

These are United Technology Corp UA1200s instead of Thiokol SRBs. Due to some truly magical lobbying by the Utah congressional delegation Thiokol got the STS booster contract despite being ranked 4th out of the four competitors. I'm not saying that STS-51L wouldn't have still happened, but at the very least NASA would have been rolling a different set of dice.

The launch livestreams never hit that bitrate after processing. Daytime launches are usually 12mbps, night-time at 10mbps H264, but depends on the weather. Equivalent VP9 encodes are even smaller, sometimes half the average bitrate for a clear sky. But then again it's still miles better than Twitter that maxes out at 720p

Helps you get a lot of data smoothly all over the planet in real time. If you don't have scale some users will get a choppy stream that constantly buffers, some won't be able to get more than 144p, and some will only get everything 2 minutes late. Thiokol knew about the joint leaking from flexing and downplayed the possibility. NASA also knew before the first Shuttle even flow. Both parties independently went to the O-ring manufacturer who told them that O-rings only work in compression, but the issue was not fixed.
>When the Thiokol engineers were discovering these problems, they went to the Parker Seal Company, which manufactures the rubber, to ask for advice. The Parker Seal Company told Thiokol that O-rings are not meant to be used that way, so they could give no advice.

-ok so he had one baby with Grimes fine, normal birth

-then he broke up with Grimes because musk is a sperg
-but then he had a 3rd baby with Grimes?

Giga based. Musk is a smart guy no question, but his utter lack of risk aversion has had likely more to do with his success than anything. He seems completely willing to put everything on the line constantly so long as it geta what he wants done.

>> No.15733137

>>15733108
They get along, but Musk is a difficult person to actually be in an actual relationship with (Grimes probably is too in a different way). Grimes and Musk both want kids though, and are friends, and clearly produce autistic ultra-geniuses.
Musk will financially support the children and has the resources to hire any amount of personnel to remove most of the major stress of parenthood.
