I would agree, but genes associated with higher intelligence often come joined with genes responsible for mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder. Imagine what kind of hell it is to know you are intelligent enough to achieve greatness, while too insane to use it in any consistently meaningful way. You are wrong. You can have high IQ and skewed cognition at the same time. To make the matter simple to understand; cognition is the tool your mind uses to comprehend the world while IQ is the depth your cognition can achieve. If the mental condition you have does not correlate with IQ deficiency, then your perception of the world will be distorted, but you will still be able to reason deeply in the realm of that distortion.

To make it even simpler; for an outside observer a person bearing that burden is wrong, perhaps even stupid, but that person has an actual capability to reach further intellectually than an average person, it's just a problem with the data said person works with.
