What's the point in neutrinos?
>they do nothing
>they don't interact with anything
>they aren't necessary for the building of stars or life
>they just exist because fuck you

Is this yet another "our equations don't add up, but its okay, because the missing properties are carried off by particles, but they are ghost particles and you can't see them oooh spooky" deal?

>what‘s the point
This question is more appropriate in church and even they will tell you to fuck off.
>they aren't necessary for the building of stars or life
Nothing in the universe exists to be able to build stars or life.

yes, and then they confirm the existence of the particle when their equations still don't add up in the same way in follow up experiments

They make sense if you really understand the standard model as a chiral gauge theory. A neutrino and electron (and its heaver generations) are two aspects of the same thing.

It's a case of that working out well because we observed them directly later.

One neutron (a spin 1/2 neutral baryon) decays.
The products are a proton (spin 1/2.positive baryon) and electron (spin 1/2 negative lepton).

Looks like charge conservation is obeyed and baryon number conservation also, but spin isn't and lepton number isn't.

So God decides to add a kludge particle and hopes nobody notices: One antineutrino keeps lepton number at 0, charge of 0 keeps charge conservation happy and if the spins are arranged right the spin conservation works out as well and everybody's happy.

Actually they prefer to mingle with the other colors.
