>Stanford theoretical physics professor Steven Kivelson, one of the leading physicists in the world today: "Much of the physics that I think about is based on experimental work that is done in China. The entire field is highly dependent on and benefits from cooperation with colleagues in China.” Adding that on top of that many of his best graduate students and postdocs come from China.

Or should countries do science within their own borders?

Countries should stop funding physics entirely

Agreed as a mathematician the numbers don't add up.

Science should collaborate with whoever it wants. Leave politics out of it.

US (((Globalists))) have been systematically crippling domestic science in favor of international collaboration.

Now they have lost the good will of both their citizens and their globalist benefactors.

Americans should try to cooperate with China since they're vastly outpacing us in scientific output. But the Chinese don't have the same incentive to cooperate with America. If I were the Chinese government I would probably shut it down so I could keep all the developments for myself.

America gets most of it's brightest scientists from East Asia anyway.
>should countries do science within their own borders?
No. Countries like America, where it's becoming harder to live in, would suffer dramatically. Because of brain drain.
