Ok, /sci/, maths problem time.
A three digit number is subtracted from a four digit number, and the result is a 3 digit number. If each of the 10 digits are different, what's the smallest result possible

>> No.1570551

If you can't solve this by yourself, how do you plan on passing summer school?

There is no way this is a problem for a class.

>> No.1570579

OP here, I feel very out of place on this board, but can someone offer the answer and working?

>> No.1570580

What is the smallest number not definable in less than 13 words.

>> No.1570581

to get the smallest possible result, subtract the three largest digits from the four smallest digits

1234
-987
=247

that problem was super easy dude

Dude stop trying to find the answers to your Australasian Year 12 Maths Competition thing... because i took that test and i saw that question

Ok, ok.
Two 10*18*l blocks are placed on either side of a cylinder with a length equal to l to stop it moving. One block has 1 10*l face on the ground, while the other block has an 18*l face on the ground. The block on the left sticks out by 4 units more than the block on the right. What's the radius of the cylinder?

No repeating digits, fuckwad.

>> No.1570604

>>1570581
That's not the right answer, the 10 digits aren't different, you used two sevens and two twos.
"Each of the 10 digits are different"

>> No.1570605

Can we use zero? because
0123 - 987 = -864

or if you're gonna be picky
1023 - 987 = 36

>> No.1570613

1026 - 987 = 39
that's as good as it gets, eat a dick.

>> No.1570617

>>1570605
I'm not sure if you can use 0 at the start, does that count as a four or three digit number? Also, in your second answer, the result was only two digits.

>> No.1570629

>>1570613
But the last numeral has to have three digits.

You're using two zeros and no fours, harder than /sci/ thought, perhaps?

Read the question idiots. ALL 10 DIGITS ARE DIFFERENT!! and the answer is 3 digits too.

All I got was the 4 digit number is <1850 and the answer is >99

I have more, so i'll post and see if you guys want?
