It is immediately apparent that the stoichiometry of the last reaction is impossible to balance. Moreover, the claimed chemistry is highly unusual and lacks precedent. The authors contend that copper phosphide quantitatively reduces sulfate to sulfide while selectively yielding phosphate as the only oxidation product. However, this exchange of sulfate/phosphate based on known chemistry principles seems implausible. The only reference the authors provide in the synthesis section is this:

While it is in Korean, it is clear that this paper does not claim a similar sulfate/phosphide -> sulfide/phosphate exchange.

Even if we consider the authors' proposed chemistry, it is unlikely that the final phase can be a pure compound. If the superconducting phase is the Cu-doped lead apatite, there must also be a second, copper-rich phase. This second phase cannot be a mere trace compound.

Lead has lots of weakly held excess electrons which is why it is such a soft metal. Copper is the second-best pure metal conductor (after silver). Oxygen and Phosphorus are electron succs that might have useful radii to structure the lead-copper amalgam and reduce the free electrons to an ideal ratio.

Superconductors are about having a bunch of synchronized free electrons that will flow together. Too many or too few electrons means you have gaps or crowding along the flow.

All of this is true. They patented it but the technology is useless if kept secret. If it works they're still going to be set for life with their names on the discovery and a patent in place. They didn't want to release the paper yet but one of the author's did so anyway because he was afraid it was going to get scooped. The remaining two author's removed the first author's name from the paper and released an updated version of it.
It also appears to have a much lower critical field than other superconductors as you suggest. I'm not sure if it's garbage, or if it can't be compensated for in some way, but it's there.

The author's did due diligence to explain what they think is happening with known theory that came before it. The simplest digestable explain I can manage is that doping to create quantum tunneling wells is a known thing before this, and they just packed enough in a structure that it ends up creating functioning like a superconductor.
