Covid in particular was a huge cash cow for big pharma and a great excuse for governments all around the world to become more authoritarian and limit people's freedoms. So big pharma and big government has all the incentives to work together.
Climate change is another case where many rich fucks have a vested interest in shaping the narrative in a certain way regardless of objective data (or lack thereof).
Then you get fields like the study of intelligence and psychometrics in general where you are not allowed to say anything racist even when the available evidence seems to confirm racism.
If you are a botanist studying some rare plants, probably nobody is gonna bother you since nobody has much of an incentive in censoring your research; but in many other fields there are powerful people who have economic and ideological incentives to use their power in order to silence you.
