I thought the lab leak hypothesis was stupid because most novel pathogens evolve on factory farms and open air markets. There was no reason to believe that a bat would have escaped from a lab and spread the disease to a human population.

It is the only post of reasonable logic. The problem with the lab leak theory is that it's highly unlikely compared to the chance that it's from the nearby Chinese wild animal market. Then Occam's Razor.

What is more likely:

Thousands of untrained people going into the wild without protection get a disease from Pangolins that first hopped from bats and therefore there is a reasonable expectation that it can easily jump species again.

A tiny group of scientists in a lab who take precautions at work every day let loose a bat virus they're studying because they're dipshits which just so happens to contain Pangolin DNA for no explainable reason whatsoever.

By reasonable expectation there is a 99% chance that the origins of Covid-19 are the wild animal market and a 1% chance it's a lab leak. Although a lab leak theory is not impossible it is highly improbable.

We will never know , but the idea of accidental lab leak , should be taken seriously , and be investigated .
