As predators, our minds evolved to minimize effort while maximizing gain. Thankfully, one way to minimize effort is with projectiles. However, predictive algorithms and time history are required for good accuracy. Also, multiple participants make it easier on everyone in the hunt. Thus, social and predictive brains dominated those without in minimizing effort and maximizing rewards.

lmao
the human mind is very adaptable but it's very noticeably out of its element in modern highly-structured society. Hunter-gatherers don't have depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc, those are caused by society's failure to accommodate the workings of the mind and the mind's inability to perfectly adapt to a situation so far removed from what it optimized for.
There's a reason you'll feel much more alert, in your element, and generally happy taking a hike through the woods than you will sitting in a cubicle staring at a screen. If you don't, you've been thoroughly mindbroken

we’re not completely driven by instinct. Our consciousness relies a lot on our experience. If you train even a monkey from birth, you can make it the smartest monkey on the planet, because our brains are wired to learn and form habits. Adaptability is the ultimate fitness trait, and humans happen to be the most adaptable creatures on the planet.

One of many abstractions explained with more abstractions. Biology turning into mythology. If a bot can't solve a captcha then we have no understanding how the brain recognizes, interprets and decides on novel patterns.

wow atheists are fucking dumb. you ever think it’s because this thing designed all that technology in a way that coheres with its existing skills and way of parsing reality? you’re acting like brains stumbled upon technology and adapted to it, when they literally designed it according to their own intuitive model of reality

You're avoiding the issue. The system knows that some solutions are less optimal (risk/reward, pleasure/pain etc.) for its goals than other solutions yet chooses the suboptimal one against its own interests. That doesn't make sense.

>> No.15474102

>>15474068
Not the one you were talking to, but man, you've really got this all wrong. Alcohol wasn't "designed," it was discovered in fruit and food that had gone bad. Lots of animals do drugs. Evolution doesn't know beforehand what's optimal and not, it punishes and rewards based on the current conditions. The only end-goal is reproduction. Losing inhibitions and lubing social functions tends to be pretty good for that goal. Being drunk once in a while doesn't cause any harm in the long run, and the people whose genes punished drinking harshly get weeded out. It's not about optimal, it's about survival.

>Alcohol wasn't "designed," it was discovered in fruit and food that had gone bad.
Look at all the alcoholics being addicted to brown bananas. If bananas are not available they buy cheap bags of rice to ferment resulting in the world wide beloved amazake. Who wants to drink Bud Light anyway nowadays? It's not like scientists and engineers optimize the taste to hijack the reward system right?
>>15474102
>It's not about optimal, it's about survival.
The lack of selection pressure argument is making my point that we are not well-adapted to modern society from a well being perspective. Be a sick miserable bastard, impregnate hundreds of women as a fraudalent sperm bank worker and your genes won this generation of the game.

Are you really saying that it's the taste of the booze that causes addiction? I thought you were talking about evolution when you mentioned the system, but I guess not. Optimal evolution has never been the case, as that would require knowledge of the future. But yeah, technology and society has removed most of the pressure besides the purely social one. Machines and tech is our way of adapting now, but this was also what caused us to escape the evolution game to begin with.
