There was so much hype around CRISPR few years ago, yet all we got is couple of gene therapies for crippled children. What gives?

Heavily flawed technology. Can be very useful in a lab setting with cell lines, the moment you introduce it into actual mammals however ... aos the biggest flaw is that for insertions it still relies on nothing but lucky hits and the cell's own DNA repair. Plus usually you gotta hit not only one but both alleles with this, pushing down the chances of it working by yet another magnitude of probability.

What I don't get is if its so cheap why aren't we seeing a fuckton of pharma startups making cheap generics?

Seems like yet another Wright Brothers case of people who will waste all their time suing each other over something that was never actually equiped for the market while something newer and better will come in the next 5 years to completely replace it.

Turns out biofags are actually clueless people and should not be part of STEM. They are the ones that took the easiest brainlet friendly subject that still somehow looks "scientifically" with barely any science behind it.
Just look at their subjects, they don't even have maths. Class is 80% women, always fool. Meanwhile engineering, materials science and similar stuff is the polar opposite.

If you want a subject with competent people that interacts with biology you should rather get into bioelectronics. Because here actual progress is being done.
