I like how the science article on some guy's AI tool for reading papers contains a correction noting the high false positive rate of the AI tool. Would be interesting to see some actual, non AI-generated data on this. I have seen a handful of fake chemistry papers, but never in a journal where the reviewers actually look at the papers (i.e., all the decent journals, which are the only ones we actually read). I think it would be pretty easy to spot if people actually started making fake NMRs. Seems like too much work to fake. I guess it's probably more common in neuroscience and such. Also, probably physics, since the code they use to analyze their data can often generate real looking data by just adding in some statistical noise.

I would like to say it's true, but unfortunately you don't have to look far to see far worse than nature. tandfonline, hindawi, frontiers come to mind. MCBI was recently marked as predatory also. Everything in nature comm and nature methods can safely be assumed to be bullshit by default in my experience. But the nature reviews articles tend to be quite good, and sometimes, some of the specialized nature journals have decent articles. I find that PNAS and PLOS have far higher signal to noise ratio though.
