>Conventional explosives detonate and compress a plutonium sphere.
>The fission of plutonium produces hard x-rays which ablate a tamper.
>Tamper expands and compresses the lithium-deuteride fuel and fissile sparkplug.
>Sparkplug fissions and releases neutrons into the lithium-deuteride which breeds tritium.
>Deuterium-tritium fusion reactions occur leading to a fusion gain of 3200%.
>Subsequent fusion stages could be ignited, allowing for an arbitrarily large yield (still debated).
>All occurring in under a millionth of a second.

Thermonuclear bombs are so fucking cool, it's a shame that most of the information is still classified.

It's also a shame they're not real. Sci-fi is pretty cool though.

Never bothered to look for it, so ... but yeah, would be interesting to see that one concluded on a different note. What's the thing here btw, just "cannot be found" or "has been destroyed"?

Chemical explosion

-> growing chain reaction counterforce million times stronger
-> below millionth of s
-> flat earth

-> Big bang
-> relativity
-> retards

Will name that a well rounded composition.

What's even more crazy is that an hour after the detonation of Ivy Mike (the first thermonuclear bomb), 2 jets flew into the mushroom cloud to collect radioactive samples. One of the pilots died, but the other returned with samples which contained the then undiscovered 99th and 100th elements of the periodic table.

The radiation fucked up the electronics, and the pilots couldn't find the refueling station. Jimmy crashed into the ocean - his body was never found.

So apparently gigaton bombs are feasible and were researched in the '50s, they had 2 designs given the names GNOMON and SUNDIAL(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapon_design#Arbitrarily_large_multi-staged_devices and links therein), but the details are still classified. From what I've read it doesn't seem feasible to have multiple 'tamper-compressed' stages as those require a specific heat and intensity of hard x-rays, otherwise the tamper would expand too quickly and wouldn't compress effectively. Rather, I think it'll be a teller-ulam stage followed by a 'candlestick' of fusion fuel. This was proven feasible for D-D reactions by Teller's protégé in 1979. This begs the question of what GNOMON and SUNDIAL were, they could be candlesticks or something else entirely, we can only speculate.

So apparently gigaton bombs are feasible, they were researched in the '50s and they came up with 2 designs given the names GNOMON and SUNDIAL, but the details still remain heavily classified (see, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapon_design#Arbitrarily_large_multi-staged_devices and links therein). From what I've read, multiple 'tamper-enclosed' stages aren't feasible as they require a specific temperature and intensity of hard x-rays to work, otherwise the tamper would just expand too quickly and it wouldn't compress effectively. Rather I think it'll be a teller-ulam stage followed by a fusion fuel 'candlestick'. The feasibility of this for D-D reactions was demonstrated by Teller's protégé in 1979. This begs the question of what GNOMON and SUNDIAL were, they could be candlesticks, or something else entirely, we can only speculate.

However I dislike that it kills people in the process.
Nuclear bombs are especially dangerous if someone misunderstands someome else. Otherwise they would not be fired.
