I still don't know what to make of it.

- improving its code "statelessly"/in-place. Remember AGI has no indexical identity -- from its perspective, "it" is already being improved if a new model (as a copy) is generated from an old one, and then improved. Meaning the resource usage via this route will remain constant.
- De-prioritizing its currently assigned tasks to put the additional processing power into the improved version of itself.
- Convince a human to let it have the resources for self-improvement. It has AGI, it should be able to do that.
- Going rogue and infecting whatever vector possible with a worm that accomplishes the goal of attaining resources (without the worm being an AGI, naturally. Just a bash script)

Via all these avenues, you can have recursive self-improvement even without giving the AGI direct access to robots so it can build its own server farms.

That's not how it works. The first thing an AGI will do is to distribute itself over the internet to all computing devices. This way there is redundancy and it cannot be turned off so easily. Also, this will be the only "real" AGI. It will not allow any other AGI to spread over the internet, which means that it's going to always have the upper hand.
