Most anime is not tranime, but most modern anime fans have god awful taste. Anime never recovered from Japan's economic stagnation in the 90s, to which the anime industry responded by cutting costs and making "safe" bets by pandering to base anime fandom instead of experimenting with the genre and trying to make anime for a broader audience of well adjusted adults. This problem has gotten worse with time, to the point where today most anime is designed to sell body pillows and other creepy merch to weird lonely men (e.g. the userbase of /a/)

If present anime trends continue, we're never going to get true space kino like Royal Space Force again. Even Planetes was nearly 20 years. The Japanese animation industry may as well be dead.

I think GitS:SAC is the best example of good post-Y2K anime, and you're missing out if you haven't seen it.
You're completely right though, the medium is essentially worthless slop nowadays. What I've noticed is there is almost no 'adult' anime at all, and I don't mean that in terms of gore or explicit language. Every example of modern work that "isn't for kids" is very obviously aimed at teens age 13-18; there's literally nothing intended for the above-20 audience. Where's my Patlabor 3? I know why, japanese adults are too busy for anime and there's a stigma against consuming it after highschool and doubly so after university; it just sucks.

>>15303119
you'd be hard pressed to claim that was on purpose; given the context of ASATs I want to know when the first fully intentional and overtly hostile attack on a functional orbiting satellite belonging to a foreign power will happen.

Yeah GiTS:SAC was great, there was still some good stuff being made for a while, it just became less and less frequent as time went on, I think as people from the earlier era aged out of the industry and got replaced by younger people without the same background and skill.
>Patlabor
Pinnacle of anime right here. I love Patlabor so much. Definitely a product of it's era, excellent late cold war media. I fear nothing of this caliber will ever be made again.

Anime's decline is due in part to Japan's economic decline. Those gorgeous 80s and 90s shows were the artistic equivalent of gold flakes on pizza, a show of overwhelming budget surplus. The budget pressure only got worse as Japan's population declined, since skilled artists were wanted elsewhere for higher pay.

>> No.15304306

>>15304297
Dumb comment. You are now realizing that today, we have 20x more anime per year than 20-30 years ago. Anime didn't decline, we got flooded with anime. Low IQs being low IQs, you were unable to filter out and understand what happened. So you only saw low quality anime and are claiming "Anime's decline" nonsense.

The total budget allocation now is less. Between simplification, 3DCG, and outsourcing to Korea and SEA, it costs less to spam cheap garbage than to make a smaller number of better series - and since most of these series are adaptations of LNs or manga, there's less spent on writing and character design.

>> No.15304317

>>15304297
Yes this is certainly true. And there's a direct relationship between budget and animation quality, because the actual animation took a lot of time, particularly when they were still doing real cel animation. But... there was plenty of anime made back then on much smaller budgets, which had visibly cheaper animation but still had a lot of merit. Compelling stories or settings, characters, etc. Those things didn't necessarily require big budgets in the same way that high quality animation itself does. And I think all of those things have largely been lost now. Computers made animation much cheaper, but all they can manage to make with it is slop. They can render CGI "anime" at a constant FPS but what good is that if all they're making is fapbait slop?

Making good anime could be cheaper now than ever before, but the problem isn't production costs, the problem is the market for it. Who's going to buy it? It's the problem mentioned here: >>15304278 And so I think the skills needed to actually produce stuff like they used to have probably withered away, such that even if there was a market for something the industry no longer has the talent to execute on that. If you don't use it, you lose it.

according to this analysis its the only place where neutron has a theoretical advantage

There's a pretty sizable market that exists at 1T to 8T, so RL will definitely have a market to operate in. But that market will last only as far as Starship not being operational. Once SpaceX has the ability to co-manifest payloads at scale, it becomes increasingly difficult for them to keep up. SpaceX has to figure out their payload deployment issue and the structural issues with their ship design (as per latest CSI Starbase video); but once they're over that hurdle and can say get 50T to LEO at half the cost of a Falcon 9. RTLS costs for rideshare will be half of anything RL can offer at the cheapest without basically running negative on flights, and SpaceX would still turn a profit per flight from just a handful of companies. But at 50T, if each payload say was 200kg tops, that's 226 payloads per flight. Assuming no RUD to orbit and assuming say 500k cost for each payload to orbit, that's $113.398M in revenue per flight. If Starship costs say $25M to launch, that's $88.398M in profit or 300% margin per flight.

The limiting factor then won't be Starships or fuel or launch cost or logistics of flight, but of orbital space and deorbiting of expired satellites. RocketLab's Neutron rocket's market existence is as long lived as it takes for Starship to get up to operational cadence. Once that happens, its game over for most small/medium lift providers that are trying to compete internationally. SpaceX will devour it all.

You dont even need to co-manifest to get Starship to be superior than Neutron.

If Starship flies 100 times a year, cost $50M (more expensive than Neutron), they can just go Starship purely for availably/reliability standpoint. Thats not to mention that margins available. If someone only has 5ton, who will they choose?

Get an entire Starship for $50 that can fly any time?
Or get a Neutron for $45 that can fly once a month (at best)

It's just a thought experiment. Reality is that its not going to get to 226 payloads or more per flight. But ultimately, SpaceX like its counter part Tesla, in its respective market has much more operational and cost leverage in the market compared to others trying to compete with it. When SpaceX successfully landed their Falcon 9 for the first time in 2015, should have been the wake up call to make investments to move any existing designs up into a reuse context to try and get the rockets out the door into market and use the upmass cost as R&D to bridge the gap between themselves and SpaceX. We are 7 years into that landing date and the first orbital class equivalent competitor to Falcon 9 Block 4 is expected to have its maiden flight in 2024-2025.

If it takes a decade to realize that competition is about to drive a stake through your heart, you're not long for the world. SpaceX stopped declaring Falcon design blocks, but its probably realistic to assume that Falcon 9 is closer to Block 6 or Block 7 FT now rather than Block5 (2015-2016). They still make the occasional design improvement on the vehicle as they collect more data from each reuse flight that goes into new boosters that get made.

While I wish RocketLab well, I am of opinion that Peter Beck fucked up and waited too lon to transition from Electron to Neutron. The market for that vehicle is going to be very short lived. Probably 3-5 years max, and then they'll start seeing a sharp decline. I said in the previous thread that Starship I think will force everyone to adapt a flat bus design for all payloads moving forward (as much as possible) and optimize for volume rather than mass even if the vehicle's existence allows for big chonky payloads to orbit. As orbits get filled up, collision risk and high velocity debris risks increase exponentially. Physics, necessity, and derisking strategies will force this uniformity.

>> No.15305154

>>15305144
I think expecting 100 flights a year before 2030 is unrealistic. But seeing 50 flights a year by 2030 is more probable. But after 2030, it would be reasonable to start seeing exponential growth of Starship launches. 100 in 2031, 150 in 2032, 200 in 2033, 250 in 2033, 300 in 2034, 400 in 2035 and so on out to 1000 launches per year. SpaceX has to reach 1-2k launches a year if they want their Mars ambitions to become viable.

The more Starship flies, the cheaper it will be, thus

Starlink alone will fly atleast few dozens a year. If they send in 100 Starlinks per Starship and they do 50 launches of them a year, thats 5000 a year. Keep that rate for 6 years and you get 30000 Starlinks, thats their full constellation. Then each sats will have ~6-7 year lifetime, thus at the end of the 6-7 years, they can just relaunch new batches and continue to update/maintain their system pretty well.

50 launches a year is just them alone. Do you think they can't get 50 other launches a year?

>> No.15305173

>>15305166
>Do you think they can't get 50 other launches a year?
That's the wrong question to ask. Its not what SpaceX is capable of, the limiting factor will always be the US state and federal bureaucracy being able to keep up with SpaceX's cadence. Falcon 9 already pushed FAA to the limit where its pace is causing FAA to almost buckle under the weight of it, to the degree that they're requesting more funding to Congress to expand operational footprint to keep up. Now, along comes Starship and 10x that.

SpaceX here is the olympic athlete who's trained its entire life to win the gold medal. The FAA, bless their heart, in this metaphor is the fat guy in the office chair who walks 2 miles and is on his knees, winded.

Politics. She was pulled from her HLS job promotion by Biden admin and pushed her out of it entirely, having no role, for selecting Starship instead of National Team nonsense.

>> No.15305193

>>15305179
Brother, can you not be daft for one fucking second and think it through what you're writing? The FAA is barely keeping up with SpaceX's Falcon 9 volume. Barely. Starship is expecting to 10x that. The limiting factor is bureaucracy always. SpaceX will continue to fly Falcon 9 and Starship flights until they are ready to to retire the F9 and go purely Starship. Until the bureaucracy catches up, the answer is yes: they'll be capped to 50. The FAA has no rule book yet on how to handle a half a kiloton controlled detonation that's expected to launch 100-1000x a year that's in a class ABOVE the current mass/volume of NASA's SLS. SpaceX's current launch allowance for Boca Chica is 10 per year. While Roberts Road has no actual limit, any administration will quickly step in and put a cap on that, the moment the routine launch cadence begins to potentially disrupt flight corridors. Starship is Saturn V but with Falcon 9 cadence. That's unheard of.

The situation might have been different if Blue Origin was already flying New Glenn by now, but the fact that it hasn't even made it to the friggin' static fire test stand, means that Starship is going to face a lot of bureaucratic challenges and will have to pave a lot of new roads before it can take advantage of them properly.

Kathy was the fall guy. The guy who made the call on HLS selection was an acting admin. He went rogue before Nelson got appointed, made the call on selecting HLS Starship for the once in lifetime opportunity, and immediately resigned, which locked in the decision and forced the Biden admin to carry the weight of it; as rescinding the decision would be viewed as political. It was a masterful execution of capitalizing on 1 in a 100 years moment of brilliance.

He quit right after the decision so the new Biden admin can't backtrack it and embarass/expose themselves. So instead they play the politics game by removing anyone that went along with him, Kathy, who got a promotion for her success in commercial space and told her to become the lead for Starship. Biden did not like this one bit. She was immediately stripped of her duties and told to fuck off. Now we're seeing her being pushed out of the organization entirely.

The man was a genius, both as an engineer and a charismatic socialite. He's actually responsible for the structure at NASA where senators buy jobs in their state and give NASA funding in return: he created it to collect the huge amounts of money saturn V required.
That's not even mentioning his relationship with JFK, the stuff he got up to in germany, and what his loyalists did after he left NASA.

>There's a reason everything started to fall apart after he left
It fell apart before he left. Saturn V not receiving a second production run, itself a death knell for any expanded program that built upon Apollo, was a done deal by 1968. Political discussions/budgeting in 1969 only reinforced that: Congress/the President/the Office of Management and Budget were debating whether any manned space operations were in the national interest, not space infrastructures or missions to Mars.
NASA historian T.A. Heppenheimer sums up what happened as:
>During the year that followed the landing of Apollo 11 in the Sea of Tranquillity, NASA received a cold bath in the Sea of Reality

That's not even how the pathophysiology that leads to Caesarean sections works. Hip size is not the primary reason why C-sections are performed.

And outside of "I don't like these people therefore they shouldn't exist", implementing 'eugenics' in those cases wouldn't fix anything. No C-sections so some marginal fraction of women/infants die in childbirth so some fraction of those for whom the cause was hereditary don't successfully procreate, so some trait frequency in the population slightly shifts. There's no equilibrium, so the eliminated population wouldn't be replaced by a surge in 'healthy' births, so all you've done is shrink your probably below-replacement rate population for no real gain.

In short: natural selection is weakened because medical science saves lives of people with hereditary diseases who otherwise would die, and helps reproduce those that otherwise could not, and subsequently transmit the medical problem –if it has a genetic basis– to the next generation
>Medical treatments: regenerative medicine, organ transplantation, blood transfusion, pharmaceutical drugs including essential medicines (52), –surprisingly– including gene therapy, fetal therapy (137), antibiotics (46), vaccination, medical devices (e.g. hearing aid (37), and non-medical inventions such as clothing, cooking, soap, houses with air co and central heating, etc. all affect survival and indirectly reproduction

you mean whichever traits contribute to a C-section to be necessary? Also doesn't really matter if narrow hips cause more c-sections( they do). By doing c-sections the passing of those "bad" genes is effectively allowed to continue and the overall results is an increase in c-section frequency.

No. The only people who believe that argument are people who also are perfectly fine ranking individuals using a highly politicized metric, and then are also fine making value judgements about people based off of those flawed assumptions. The governing factors for birthrate are all in economics, not intelligence.

So how does the transition between air and ocean work on jupiter? Obviously at some point theres gotta be liquid then solid but is it a hard line like the earth or is it different? This extends to the ice giants as well, and how deep could we send a probe designed for their atmospheres? Also what happened to the shoemaker-levy comet that went in to Jupiter? Did it burn up/melt in the atmosphere on entry or did it hit that ocean?

it has no magnetosphere to speak off. Which means the solar winds blow anything light into the infinite space while heavies like carbon dioxide are left cooking the thing.

It has barely any rotation and even then it is counter rotation compared to every single fucking planet in the entire system. Even Uranus which is on its side literally rolling along its orbit, one pole always facing the sun, one always in darkness. No rotation=no magnetosphere. Really crying shame too as otherwise it is almost perfectly the same size as earth while next door neighbor, much closer and acessible the fucking arctic desert Mars. Which means with cross world insemination being very much a thing with asteroid bombardments earth could have seeded venus with basic building blocks. That's still incomprehensible. You just casually say "oh it's expansion" as if that explains everything. In special relativity you simply can't have a situation where an object is receding faster than the speed of light, but that's exactly what we see. We see an event horizon, and beyond that galaxies are simple invisible. It's not what you might be thinking off, where A and B are receding from C in the middle at nearly the speed of light, so C can say the gap is growing faster than light. That's not what the expansion is at all.

And the economic factors of an individual will be influenced by their intelligence. I get you don't like it, but IQ is a good predictor for a large variety of outcomes, and those can be inter related.

A smarter couple can decide that they will have fewer children or delay having children because of the economy, where a less intelligent couple have a fee kids, because they are not as likely to plan. That is still intelligence playing a role.

We don't hate people for not having a high IQ, if I could add 10 points to everyone or bring everyone below 90 up to it I would. That would be great for them and society.

And IQ isn't the only thing that needs to be considered, you also want people to be healthy, long lived, strong, healthy weight. All of these can and should be encouraged, but also have a genetic component that should be recognized.

In theory money is the method of eugenics, the people with the qualities that society selects for are rewarded, then can afford more children, welfare breaks this and sort of flips the script.

So in short no welfare in space [to stay sfg related]

One thing this analysis doesn't take into account is the Nuetron could very well have a lower recycle cost than Falcon 9 eventually. Think not having to fish the fairings out of the ocean, one less ship. No barges to maintain. Further AlLi may be cheaper than Cfiber but Falcon 9 is a conventionally made item. Much of Electron is already robotically made on big drums. Beck has suggested that a lot of this tooling can be used for neutron and will be simpler to manufacture. No part is better than the best part. So having legs molded right into the tank when made is going to save some. Wealth distribution is historically not in line with IQ distribution, since, simply put, wealth is inherited more than IQ over multiple generations. A lack of welfare services leads to crime, which leads to more poverty, which leads to more crime, etc. Unless you go the route of just letting them starve (which is politically untenable even if you can stomach it personally) then people are going to be stupid and have children they can't afford, which only compounds with less access to education and other services.

The whole crux of their company is questionable. The rocket isn't lighter and the build time isn't faster, at least as things currently stand. They picked a gimmick and ran with it, which is unfortunately the state of things in newspace. We'll see how far they manage to run with it weighing them down.
Like most newspace companies, I think they should be focusing on the payload market instead of launch, and this is actually a scene I think they could do well in. If they adapted one of their printer setups for operation in vacuum 0g, that thing could churn out useful pressurizable volume in orbit, using compact and easily-launched spools of material. They could- and should- be developing this capability instead of faffing about with gimmick rockets.

don't reply to obvious bait anon. Your first clue was 'highly politicized metric' (it's a pretty basic test which even the army uses to gatekeep recruits). Your second clue was 'all in economics', some rich people reproduce much more than average (see: elon musk) and some much less. The same with poor or middle income groups.

>look at me, i'm such a nerd
instead of
>look at this cool rocket
do they even give a shit about the rocket itself or spaceflight? could you replace that with any niche interest and they wouldn't really care?
kind of reminds me of that one pic with a niche interest group gradually inviting people in, first its some random friends that are kind of interested, then these friends invite some other people, perhaps a girl, then people come in because there are girls and perhaps due to the community itself, after a while the niche interest itself is irrelevant
now when I think about it, isn't this like what a lot of anime conventions are like? haven't been to one but this histrionic behaviour kind of makes it seem like that, its people getting attention, not really caring about the subject
