yes and agnosticism too, used to mean something more akin to postmodernism than "idk", but nobody uses these definitions now.

the fact so much people think they have a "lack of belief" proves modern society is becoming more and more decadent and fake.

unless you have some wierd kind of brain damage, you mind makes up a preference about all things you`re seeing/reading.

let`s make a statement; "the flying spaghetty monster does and he has sex with unicorns".
Now you`ve read the statement you HAVE NO CHOICE TO LACK A BELIEF, you either believe the statement or not. The process to believe something is done unconsciously in the first place.

So if you have choosen not to believe "i have lack of belief" is a false expression.
Only babies/animals who have never heard of the idea of a god can have a real lack of it.

Please atheists if have want to ignore religion in all your life choices just say "i do not believe in a god" or "i am not religious" and stop making society so retarded.

No. Agnosticism is the lack of acceptance of belief or disbelief in God.
These definitions are always and will always be the correct definitions and those who use other definitions should not participate in intelligent discussions on the matter.

Perhaps akin to postmodernism is vague but I don't think incorrect. Also, as usual the etymology is far more interesting than the definition itself:

the technical definitions of gnostic and agnostic suck

so I use my own, because they rule

and anyways to be honest it's more useful talking about them like that, who cares about that stuff, if I have to talk about it in an academic setting, I will, but this isn't one no matter how hard it tries to be, don't get me wrong it's great, but intellectual snobbery can go to hell in the face of intelligent discussion

Unfortunately, atheism has also become synonymous with anti-Christian. I don't understand how this belief system which is supposed to be so enlightened (and really is depending on how you look at it) can breed so much self-righteousness and hatred. I'm not Christian, I'm pagan, and I have plenty of atheist friends. None of them have ever attacked my belief system, and yet many of them will bash the Christian religion rather than just live with their own beliefs. I always found this interesting. Does this suggest that atheism was primarily formed as a backlash against the Christian dominance in society? Or is it just that they don't believe in the Christian god and the common reputations of Christians being Bible-bumpers and religion pushers irks them? I'm not anti-atheist, I just always found this a bit odd and interesting.

Personally I dislike all religions equally, but when you are going for an attack you go the route that will do the most damage, thus in a Christian dominant society you go for Christianity, because it's pointless attacking the 1% thats pagan in comparison to the 80% that's Christian.

That said, I try to avoid attacking personal beliefs, its religion itself I find distasteful.

I guess my question is more along the lines of why does not believing in any religion become being anti-religion. I see what you're saying though, and I appreciate the fact that you don't wantonly attack people's beliefs. Personally I feel that as long as a person is not trying to influence you, there is most nothing wrong with anything they may believe.

An -ism is a belief or doctrine. You can't have an -ism that you define as lacking having some thought or belief. That makes no sense. atheism is the ism/belief/doctrine of atheos. Atheos is godlessness, ungodliness, or the nonexistence of God.

tldr; atheism is the doctrine of the the non-existence of God.

I am one of those Atheist you speak of, who has "bashed" Christians but not Pagans. Why? Do I go around looking for Christians and say, Ha ha, your beliefs are wrong? No. I sit on a bench, reading a book, when these two CUNTS come out of nowhere and are like, Hello, how are you, what are you reading? How do you feel about God? Did you know that Jesus died for your sins?

Any place there is a forum or chat channel for religious discussion, it is full of self-described atheists who flame religion and religious belief. As a result, it's difficult to have religious discussions, because the discussion always has to be these elementary issues about the existence of God. This is why I think atheists have a bad name.

Atheism: Wait, wat? Define god again?

The poster here isn't correct.
First: "a" god. Nope. Sorry. A polytheist isn't an atheist.
Second: The word god is loosely defined. Because of this loose definition I don't classify myself as an atheist.

I'm agnostic, because I know that no one can be sure if there is or isn't a "god" and anyone that claims to "know" is either a liar or ignorant. There are just to many inabsolutes that I have to call myself agnostic.

I'm defining agnostic as "not having a religion, but feels that there is probably something out there that I don't understand that may or may not have control over the 'world' we take for granted"

Look at how many types of gods there are.

Tell me about one culture that does not believe in some type of god "something bigger than you that you don't understand that may or may not control things that also may or may not grant wishes or that may or may not have put us on this planet or that may or may not know everything about you or that..."

I see it as this: religion has always existed. Yeah, it makes a great control mechanism, but still, it's ALWAYS existed.

If you are religious, then you must disbelieve every religion except your own. There have been thousands of religions in human history, and people choose to believe exactly one. Why not extend your logic a little and cast away that last one as well?

Bonus, not every religion says that something happens after death. I know I certainly don't. I think it's something like lucid dreaming and endorphins... I don't want to die by head blownupedness.

I'm pretty sure our culture doesn't believe that lightning is caused by god. I like your thoughts though.
Are you saying though that religion and science can't coexist? There are a lot of religious scientists. Many in fact believe that god helped along evolution, that "god" plays a more passive role.

I'm saying if divine, revealed truth must be readjusted in light of human, discovered truth, one may ask why call it truth in the first place. Yes, there were many religious scientists. Yes, there will be many for generations to come. But I think you'll find their belief is there mostly for personal, emotional reasons. I can't imagine a physicist scanning the Bible to figure out why his experiment turned out the way it did.
