Why does soientific cosmology paraphrase biblical cosmology so exactly? God made the universe in six days or soience made it in three minutes, whats the difference? Just the time scale. plasma physicists in fusion research would be working on stellerators/z-pinch generators/energy extraction from ICF/LENR research/etc. - basically all the fusion projects that get zero funding because theoretical physicists latched onto Soviet tokamak designs they scrounged out of the USSR's corpse and stifled funding (and thus development) everywhere except ICF, which is funded essentially in perpetuity because it's the only truly experimental method left for studying fusion explosions which is very important to the US nuclear arsenal (and the NIF is fairly competent because they can't just rest on theoretical foundations and have to actually produce results for nuclear research)

in the case of z-pinch or other electrically driven fusors (if there's anything to LENR, it's probably this), particle physicists essentially gave up because it was too hard for them to predict plasma behavior
