What are some serious theories or ideas as to what caused the big bang.

>> No.1514867

A black hole in another universe.

inafter god

But seriously, another universe existed first, went through heat death, collapsed on itself, then instantly exploded back into a new universe.

i mean like the original universe
btw i dont mean to troll but im curious

I honestly don't think that question can even begin to be answered before we find out how this one started.

But I share your curiosity. This is the ultimate question that is really the unstated but implicit goal of all scientific inquiry.

do you think it was a god or creator of some sort?

uh, I think that if someone or something that is conscious started it all it is not concerned with what we do while we're naked or whether we work on saturday.

I don't think we're special in the context of the entire universe(s), in other words.

very humble damnit i want to know how the first universe came into existance grgrg

So does pretty much everybody on /sci/. We're not there yet, our descendants are the only ones who possibly ever will come close to knowing.

You want to know why their is something rather than nothing?

Nobody knows. And it is likely, but a sad thought, that nobody will ever know.

has the LHC community come up with any new theories based off results from their studies?

>> No.1515297

Haven't you heard? The big bang is a myth!

>> No.1515320

There are no such theories, because as we currently understand it, causality started with the Big Bang. (You can't talk about time prior to the start of the Universe, because "prior to the start of the Universe" doesn't make sense, in the same way that having -1 cupcakes doesn't make sense. Mmm... cupcakes....)

I thought I'd heard this idea before, though maybe this is the first time actual calculations have been done, so now it's meaningful instead of idle speculation. Very interesting.... Thanks for the link!

OP looks up M-Theory.
It's about 11-dimensional membranes moving in hyperspace which collide and the energy from the collisions is transferred into the explosion of space-time and heat which was the big bang.

>M-Theory
Also look up Michio Kaku, he is a big proponent of this theory.

There is also my idea that inside a black hole time stops at the event horizon, and reverses as the particles continue to accelerate towards the singularity.
When it reaches the center the energy is looped back to the beginning of time and spat out at the big bang.
Creating a self-referential loop with no beginning or end.
