I'm single and childless, so it's very hard to say.
I think saving your child is the right answer to the extent that any objectively correct answer can be found.
But in a real situation, I think there would be an interesting spread of actual decisions. Tragically, I think many people would be unable to commit and end up saving no-one.

The only ethical thing to do would be to cut the gas line to the deep fat fryer, rig a fuse using lantern oil and a wax cup, and stop ANYBODY from leaving in order to prevent the human race from being infected.
