here's what I think i'm seeing. I thought there was one big cube and one smaller cube in the middle, but I think there's two cubes of the same size and they're rotating on the spot in opposite directions, a purple cube and a green cube in the drawing. It matches up with the yellow lines in the 3D to 4D projection in the image on the right too. The wikipedia says

you've pretty much got it. the animation makes it harder to understand than the still image IMO. in the still you can see many cubes connected to the interior cube, plus the outer cubes wrapping in on themselves.

Personally found that drawing all the points that make up the shape and then rotating it incrementally was what really made it click for me.

After that i was able to derive the n-dimensional representation in linear algebra from those rotations and felt comfy
