If there were any potential consequences instead of just monetary reward, compliance would likely be higher, though.

And yet they have been replicated many times.
I guarantee the effects they observed are even more prevalent in real life where the authority figures seemingly have the right credentials and probably have some sway over the individual's future outcomes and the peer pressure isn't coming from randos they'll never need to interact with or depend on in the future but actual friends/family/coworkers and the decisions aren't as black-and-white as saying which line is longer.

Most people are NPCs when they are out of their expertise and will resort to the "go along to get along" heuristic.

lol no.
They were declared unethical and no one is allowed to even attempt to replicate them.
There is a grain of truth in the experiments so that the claimed result will not be counterintuitive as to provoke skepticism and rejection on the part of the reader.
Yes people will generally do as instructed by an authority figure.
But no, the average person answering an ad in the paper will not electrocute a stranger simply because another stranger wearing a white coat tells him to.
likewise, a person who is unsure of the answer to a question will tend to agree with the perceived consensus.
But a person will not agree if the consensus is obviously and unquestionably incorrect, although they could conceivably *say* they agree, just to get out of a room full of obvious nutcases in some contrived "experimental" setting.
Literally everyone - even NPC tier normies - has had the experience of disagreeing with the crowd and thinking everyone else is nuts except themselves.

No. In his experiment the high rates of compliance only occurred when the person giving orders dressed like a scientist and justified the orders by appealing to the importance of science.

When the orders came from somebody not dressed like a scientist and not justifying the experiment with appeals to science, compliance rates dropped. This demonstrates that the experimental subjects were motivated in part by their belief that scientific necessity could justify atrocities. It did not demonstrate blind order following, it demonstrated order following motivated by ideology.

Wow. Is that what you right wing morons got from that?

Let's do an experiment.
Let's dress the authority up as a Nazi officer and you as a private in the German army and do the same fucking experiment.

Now let's dress the authority in a Suit and make him your boss. and make it so you have to pay rent and gas for your car, and try it again!

We are all trained -- no, Programmed -- from an early age to do what the authority says. In Milgram's experiment, the subjects were getting PAID to do the study! They were put in a social position of subservience.

The problem here is not human morality or intelligence. The problem here is a social system of extortion, exploitation, and deception.

It has nothing to do with " muh science vaccination hur dur. believe the science" crap.

Science is our one way out of the Faith based society, because we can all do the experiment for ourselves, and do not have to rely on an authority to verify anything.

So go Fuck off back to /Pol.

>> No.15092504

>>15092493
The problem with your last paragraph there is that most science is highly specialized and at some point you have to trust the specialized scientists because the experiments are too complex to recreate. For an example I don’t have a fancy vacuum chamber, so I have to trust what spacies say, or else throw out everything unless I can test it myself and verify the results.. it’s still a faith based system

Not only that, the Zimbardo Prison experiment, even though due to its lack of rigor failed to measure what it intended, it instead helped to reinforce the findings of Milgrim's experiment and show just how sweeping it is.

The volunteers guessed what results their authority figure wanted, and intentionally went out of their way to behave in a way that would produce the assumedly desired results, thinking they were abusing and even harming the other volunteers for a good cause even going so far as denying a volunteer the ability to back out because "that would be a prison escape."

If an assumed authority figure that people trust says or even implies that something is a necessary evil for a good cause people will not only blindly obey they'll go above and beyond into a spiral of dehumanization and cruelty based on guesses.

You can see it in the Jan 6 congressional riot, the peasant's crusade (in fact a lot of religious wars or persecution, it's not like they're actually getting commands from on high), or every spontaneous internet hate mob.
