You have to get a Gulfstream II, deploy its rear landing gear, and set the thrusters to full fucking reverse just to simulate the glide ratio of the Shuttle at subsonic speeds, it was equivalent to a helicopter with engine failure. I think they’ve got a well-thought out design, but they can’t linger in the testing phase like Blue Origin did if they want to have a change of being financially successful. 1,650 kg/LEO isn’t a bad payload goal; it puts them above the crowd of smallsat launchers and up against Alpha, RS1, Terran 1, RFA-1. Full reusability would be a major advantage over any of these. The biggest problem they seem to have is that they want “rapid reusability” and they’re building a rocket that’s pure hydromeme. Getting those two ideas to play together would be an accomplishment.

There's not enough demand in that market to justify "rapid" reusability. I think if they can reuse the rocket and justify how the next rocket would be more easily reused (ie. methalox upper stage), they can say "ehh close enough" and nobody would bat an eye. With methalox on their first stage though, I don't know why they didn't start with methalox on the upper stage too. They started later than Relativity, who was able to see methalox as the fuel of the future by then.
