how does /sci/ feel about the following statement.

>Among those who have adopted the ground rules of science, tentative belief in the findings of a scientific research can only occur where there is a subjective readiness to believe.

Carl R. Rogers.

i think you're a faggot. and people belive science BECAUSE IT WORKS. IF IT DIDN'T WORK, THEN THE "SUBJECTIVE BULSLITHI BLAH BLAH LBAH" WOULDN'T MEAN ANYHTHNG TO SMART PEOPLE.

I believe it shows a fundamental problem with the scientific method, i.e. it uses inductive logic instead of deductive logic. However, it is impossible to deny the effectiveness of science, so it's almost certain that there exists a better method based on a connections between objects in the universe that we haven't thought of.

i though science was about how it works, not that it works.

Science: are tentative eliefs, existing subjectively, in a number of different persons.

If they are not tentative than what exists is dogma, not science.

Why would he do that?

There is nothing wrong with inductive logic. It is simply not guaranteed to preserve soundness. Since no one except fucking idiots expects science to dish out empirical tautologies (lol @ analytic a priori), no one is particularly concerned. Except for Popper, but he was just a long-winded bastard that couldn't see the forest for the trees.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I need soem answers. About five years ago one of my close friends was diagnosed wit hcancer. I odn't think ti's terminal but it's gotten lsowly worse and they keep finding new tumors. It has the potential to be successfully treated but his family is shit poor and can't do anything about it.
I have over 10mil in stock but he won't accept it from me. I can get more if I'm going to ened it, but I'm dedicating my life to finding some kind fo cure or treatment. Ito nly needs to work once. This man has eben like a fathe rto me i ntimes when I ahd no family to fall back on. I'd do anything ot help him out .
What can be done?

It's pretty obvious that (trolling aside) the good majoriyt of us are atheists. In light of that, this is not a "not you personal army" moment, but potentiall yone of 4hcan's great "our own personal army" moments. That is, if enough of you agree with me on this matter. I suggest that in a more productive follow-up to Operation Lioncash, we start crossing off the "In God We Trust" on American paper currency. (This applies to Americans msotly,o bviously.) Now, along with the whole "under God" issue with the Pledge of Allegiance, this has been a rather biga theist issue in America for the past few years. However, with the atheist minority in America, little progress has been made. This is our chance as a minority to make a difference, if you'll pardon me sounding like a zealot, and furthermore, it's quite easy to do. It takes no organization; just a sharpie and our numbers. What do you asy?

TLDR: Cross out "In God We Trust" from American currency, if you want to.
