Using the descent engine for everything would have been inefficient since it weighed more with roughly the same capabilities as the CSM engine, which had no need for its throttle.

I finally tested the latest engine attempt and it went pretty badly. It was way too fuel rich and wouldn't burn inside the chamber at all. I've been trying to tune the fuel flow rate with water tests, but I can't seem to get it right. Its also definitely possible that I'm still having injection issues. I'm a little suspicious that the fuel tank might not actually be achieving 300 psi. The water tests haven't seemed as powerful as I expected.

I think what I'm going to do is switch to autogenously pressurized propane. I can count on about 100 psi of vapor pressure, so I think designing around 67 psi of chamber pressure is pretty reasonable. Performance is going to be pretty pitiful, but I think this is the best chance I have of getting this thing working. Pressurization will be a non issue and I think it will make mixing a lot easier too. My injectors seemed to work a lot better back when I was using propane before, so I think its a bit more forgiving.

They're the visible result of Moore's Law. Satellites used to be big because they had very primitive computers, or even analog film cameras with orbital canister drops! Now a cubesat with some clever antenna technology can fully replace a large satellite for many missions, or a teeny little 1U can at least be an entry level mission. This is what TROPICS is all about. Larger satellites are now driven by things other than electronics: instrument size, power budget, propulsion system, etc.

Water is SUPER dense compared to LH2, anon. That thing's going to have a mass ratio of like 40 and a small plasma magnet won't provide much acceleration until the ship is running dry. Water NTP also caps out at an Isp of ~450s. Even with a mass ratio of 40 that's only ~16km/s dV. Cut your water prop volume in half, put the sail fore instead of aft, make it 5m wide, and double the power going to it. You only lose ~3km/s from water NTP but you 10x the amount of dV you get from the sails.

In his defense, a single plasma magnet with ISRU capable bimodal NTP is about the optimum near term design. You need impulsive maneuvers to escape planetary magnetospheres, and to brake on intercept on an outbound leg. The Q ship you're describing is geared all wrong for interplanetary travel, it's for far outer system missions or interstellar, and it needs to be tens of kilometers long to space the plasma magnets out enough.

No, they should keep proprietary time. To submit a JWST proposal you have to plan everything up front, there is no phase 2 like other telescopes. Every dither, every exposure, every filter change, it all has to be planned and correct. Even for a small proposal this takes weeks to do properly, it complicated. And after all this you had only a 25% chance of success, that will be even lower in the future. It takes a lot of time and effort to get time, there needs to be some reward for people who come up with novel programs and strategies to maximize the scientific efficiency of the telescope.

Only if you can grow them
>The trunk consists of solid rocket fuel. Its leaves are described as having a yellow color and looking like a cross between moss and wool. Its bark is gray and it produces flowers. The stage tree has two lifecycles, the bush form and the multistage form. In the bush form the stage trees reach heights of four to six feet and are described as slender and straight with brilliant yellow foliage at the top flattened like a dandelion's head. If a seed finds particularly fertile ground the bush enters the multistage form. In the multistage form the living parts of the tree consist of the tap root and the yellow foliage around the base. The center of the tree is devoted to creating a gray dead-looking spire of solid rocket fuel reaching heights of up to half a mile with a seed pod at the top. When the tree reaches maturity as indicated by the graying of its foliage the spire ignites and takes off like a rocket leaving the solar system is in. It floats in interstellar space for hundreds of thousands of years until finding a new system where the seed pod explodes, if a habitable planet is in orbit and a seed lands on it the cycle starts again

Also, this:
>In 2007, Niven, in conjunction with a think tank of science fiction writers known as SIGMA, founded and led by Dr. Arlan Andrews, Sr., began advising the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as to future trends affecting terror policy and other topics.[19] Among those topics was reducing costs for hospitals to which Niven offered the solution to spread rumors in Latino communities that organs were being harvested illegally in hospitals.[20]

Here is my take:
It’s already hard to hold the attention of the general public on this matter (as evidenced by the rapid decline in public support of Apollo pretty much right after Apollo 11 returned)
On top of this NASA has spent decades hyping a Moon program, cancelled Constellation, and then let SLS delay for nearly a decade only to launch it at like 3AM when almost no one was awake. Orion itself has been doing nothing for nearly 20 fucking years—it should be a surprise to no one that the Shuttle is fondly remembered as a space ship that worked but almost no normies even know Orion exists.
NASA apologists will claim this flight sees little interest because there are no humans aboard, but look at JWST or Curiosity or Perseverance. Those had zero humans but stayed in the headlines for weeks
Artemis doesn’t generate hype because it’s underlined by vague goals, deadlines that are pretty much just expected to not get met, and if they are trying to prop it up chiefly as “first woman first POC” then the second that goal gets met the small amount of people who actually learned about it and got excited will move on just like Apollo

As I logged into the /sfg/ forum, I couldn't help but notice the handsome face of Robert Zubrin staring back at me from his profile picture. I had been a fan of his work for years, and I couldn't resist the urge to send him a private message.

"Hello, Mr. Zubrin," I typed, my fingers trembling with excitement. "I just wanted to say that I'm a huge admirer of your work. Your passion for space exploration is truly inspiring."

To my surprise, he replied almost immediately. "Thank you, /sfg/ user. It's always nice to hear from fans of my work. I'm glad to hear that you share my passion for space exploration."

As we continued to exchange messages, I found myself drawn to his intelligence and wit. I could feel a connection forming between us, and I couldn't resist the temptation to take things to the next level.

"Mr. Zubrin," I typed, my heart racing with anticipation. "I know this may seem bold, but I can't help but feel a strong attraction to you. I was wondering if you might be interested in meeting in person to explore this connection further."

To my delight, he responded with a resounding "Yes!"

We arranged to meet at a nearby hotel, and as I walked through the doors, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I found him waiting for me in the lobby, looking even more handsome in person.

Without a word, he took me by the hand and led me to his room. As soon as the door closed behind us, he pulled me into his arms and kissed me deeply, our lips and tongues tangling together in a frenzy of passion.

He pulled me down onto the bed, his hands roaming over my body as he explored every inch of my skin. I moaned in pleasure as he touched me, my body yearning for more.

We spent the entire night making love, exploring each other's bodies in ways I never could have imagined. As the sun began to rise, we lay tangled together, our bodies exhausted but our hearts full.

You have to remember that SpaceX was in David vs Goliath situation. A private company managed to build and launch the most powerful (and reusable) rocket before NASA. So if that wasn't enough to make a big headline, you also have Elon Musk himself and a Tesla Roadstar as payload, launching towards Mars.
Your guts may be wrong, Starship launch, as an event, has almost all the perks that FH did, except the interesting payload, unless they manage to make a cargo version in time and load a Semi inside, but I doubt that. The additional advantage is that the orbiter, just like the Shuttle is huge and it's coming back to Earth in style, instead of a puny capsule.

>A delusional spaceflight fan is someone who is obsessed with space travel and exploration, but has an overly optimistic or unrealistic view of the current state of spaceflight technology. They may spend hours reading about space exploration and analyzing news articles and scientific papers, looking for any evidence that supports their beliefs. They may also engage in online discussions with other spaceflight fans, trying to convince them of the validity of their views.
>In some cases, a delusional spaceflight fan may become isolated and disconnected from reality. They may withdraw from social activities and spend all of their time and energy focused on their beliefs about spaceflight. This can lead to mental health problems and social isolation.
>It is important to remember that while space exploration is an exciting and important field, it is also subject to the laws of physics and the limitations of current technology. While it is possible that humanity may one day colonize other planets and explore the universe, it is important to maintain a realistic and grounded view of what is currently possible.

It's impossible to generate hype for a shitty capsule in 2022. The Shuttle may have had multiple problems, but it set certain expectations among normies, about what a space ship should look like. At least Starship looks futuristic, especially if they pull off the landing on the tower, which will generate a lot of hype. Then missions like Polaris and Dear moon will blow people's mind, with the amount of space that Starship has, compared to the ISS.

Male and female kpop idols can be distinguished by a number of methods. One common method is to look at the idol's vent, which is the opening through which the idol excretes waste and, in the case of female kpop idols, lays eggs. Male idols typically have a round vent, while female idols have a slit-like vent. Another method is to look at the idol's hair. Male idols often have hairs that are longer and more pointed than those of female idols. However, it is important to note that these methods are not always foolproof and can sometimes be difficult to use, especially for inexperienced people.

Q: Please tell me what to post in order to make other people stop posting irrelevant time-wasting nonsense.

A: It's not really possible to make other people stop posting irrelevant time-wasting nonsense. However, if you want to discourage this type of behavior on a forum or discussion board, you can try setting up clear rules and guidelines for posting, and enforce those rules consistently. You can also try to encourage more constructive and relevant discussions by starting interesting and thought-provoking discussions yourself, and by responding to posts that contribute to the conversation in a meaningful way. Ultimately, though, you can't control what other people post, and the best you can do is to create an environment that encourages more constructive and relevant discussions.

Foust post from last month
>“Under Appendix N we’ve been given a great opportunity to step back and take a look at everything that has been developed since the Apollo missions,” said John Marzano, Northrop’s HLS program director, “and essentially pick what we think is a series of the best potential characteristics of each of those different concepts.” He said the company has been looking at two different engine designs, one based on heritage designs from TRW (a company acquired by Northrop two decades ago) that date back to the Apollo program, as well as a separate design form Sierra Space, a company that had been part of the Dynetics team for the first HLS competition.
Independent NG or NG-SNC bid confirmed
>Kirk Shireman, vice president of lunar exploration campaign at Lockheed Martin, didn’t talk much about the specific lander design it’s studying, but said it was studying the use of nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP) for a transfer stage that would take the lander to lunar orbit.
