It was intended to be a screening test for intellectual disability, not some proxy for global intelligence (which can't even be properly defined anyways. It's like trying to distill athleticism into a single score and then using that score in highly disparate contexts and studies to draw overgeneralized conclusions with poor reproducibility about athletics and physics fitness.
