the claim that "women aren't funny" is IMO mostly about stand up comedy. there are good examples of women being funny as character actors in films, television etc with set script and direction, but no really funny female stand up comedians

maybe something related to dominance is at play in stand up comedy. the ability to be above the crowd and have everyone follow your controversial/outrageous train of thought? to withstand high amount of social pricing/scruity/criticism and risk being outcast due to bringing up offensive topics? seems the sort of thing men do much better than women in general
