What a wonderful state this board is in! Five out of ten threads on the front page, right now, are troll threads. That ratio can sometimes be even larger. Rather than having some sort of sense of collective board identity, /sci/ has merely become a troll-filled extension of /b/ and its terrible humorless children. We don't even have a Folding@Home or BOINC team, for chrissakes. You'd think that'd be one of the FIRST fucking things that this board would have done.

Gentlemen, I think it's high time for us to take back this board. Towards that end, I propose a little game. Let's call it the chemo game. The rules are simple: Every time you see a troll or non-board-related thread, you MUST start a /sci/ related thread. It doesn't matter if you feel like you can't think of a really good or interesting /sci/- related thread to start, post whatever comes to mind. Are you not in the sciences? Are you a highschool kid? That's just fine, simply either A. ask a question of the scientists and science students on this board or B. start a thread for speculating about one of the many sci-fi technologies that could potentially become a reality (space elevators, colonization of the planets, an end to aging, biological uplift, etc...). Hell, you could even start a collaborative worldbuilding thread, much like what /tg/ does rather often, and work with other /sci/borgs to produce a document detailing a fictional world for people to roleplay in and write stories about and whatnot. You could also start threads on /sci/entific videogames, such as the Powder Game and Alpha Centauri.

If you REALLY cannot come up with any worthwhile /sci/entific thread to start, then, the second rule will still be relevant. The second rule of the chemo game goes like this: if you see a troll post or a troll thread, find an interesting /sci/ related thread, and bump it. That's it, it's that simple.

I, personally, will be giving this a try right the fuck now.

Sorry, but this board is filled with too much aspergic retards. They don't understand the concept of trolling, irony or other social subtleties. Trolling is just too easy here, it's never going away.

fuck year seti@homefags.
I been with them since they launched in 1999. I have like lol 2 million 'work done' since i joined up with them after they started up boinc. I think i crunched with the 'regular seti even after they became boinc, for a while, so i think a bunch of my computed work didn't count toward that. I felt bad.

yep. They send you a load of the signal from their big dishes, your computer does the hard work, and then reports back that aliens haven't spoken to us. You get to feel good about helping SCIENCE, they get a free supercomputer

>>1496641
Dunno if anyone wants to make sci group.

Also I didn't compute that off one PC. for a long time, that work was crunched on an amd athlon 2500+. Before that, on a pentium 4 1.5 Ghz (lol i still remember when that was epic fast). After the 2500+, I think I put it on another computer in the house that was an athlon 6400+. Then after I replaced my 2500+ with a Q6600, i put it on that, and also on my laptop for a time.

Yup this. I think the SETI@home project had the highest MFLOP etc of any supercomputer or distributed computing project anywhere in the world. Then when folding@home on PS3s, all the users running folding on their PS3s beat SETI@home's processing power. However, SETI@home still has the most users, I believe. It's on wiki.
