why is applied math in physics and chemistry so logical and easy to follow but all pure math courses are pure clusterfuck?

applying calculus in my thermodynamics classes, statics, dynamics, strength theory etc is really intuitive, but then my pure math classes are just pure confusion

In my experience it's because it's much harder to know if you are right or wrong in math. Most people drop math at real analysis. I don't think real analysis is that much harder but it's much more difficult to know whether or not you made a mistake since it's mostly proofs. Using a proof assistant like Coq may help you since you'll be able to know where you messed up.

Most people drop math at the end of an undergraduate math major? I've never heard of this. Most people drop math major at the first proof based course, usually linear algebra, maybe abstract algebra and switch to physics/engineering/CS.

Then again, I just went to university of Virginia, om not an MIT/Oxford graduate like 99% of /sci/
