/sci/, I have a math problem I'm stuck on.

I need to find the mean age of a city's population based off of census information. The census groups ages together in sections of 5 (10-14, 15-19, 20-24).

The problem asks me to find the average age of each group, then combine them to find the average age of the city. How do I find the average age of each group when it doesn't tell me specific ages?

(averages of age groups * number of people in that age ) / total people

remember before dividing you have to add all the groups together by the way

I understand that, but specifically how do I find the average age for a group?
Like....

20-24 8,812 people

How would I find the average age for that?

(20+24)/2
It's the best you can do with the information given.
