Would this stop climate change or should we continue to use fossil fuels to power electric cars?

>> No.14723635

Just switching transportation away from fossil fuels would not be enough to stop climate change. Electric vehicles powered by fossil fuel power plants are still more efficient than ICE engines burning fossil fuels, mostly because larger engines are more efficient and the centralization allows for better maintenance. A better law would be to mandate that a certain percent of power must be replaced by renewables each year.

>> No.14723638

>>14723620
Why can't they be powered by nuclear plants or hydro? Also, the image is stupid because the generators at even coal plants are cleaner and more efficient than any mass produced ICE vehicle.

i remember just a few years ago when trump said something about clean coal tech and all of the glowing greenies and their stooges were screeching madly about how "theres no such thing as clean coal"
now that the narrative has changed the same folks are screeching about how clean coal plants are.

That's still true. There just is coal. And while it's shit, it's less shit than that 10% efficiently combustion engine in your car. In the long run, EVs should be powered by renewables, no question. The Facebook boomer who wrote OP's picture probably doesn't know about hydropower and geothermal energy.

Climate change = hoax by the rich elite. They want YOU to give up transportation since transportation is what elevated the lower class and created the large middle class.

The rich want the 95%(those who aren't part of the elite or their "elected" minions) poor. Yes that means you.

You could put all of the west in electric cars. So long as China, India, Bangladesh etc are pumping out co2 and no effort is made to force environmental laws on them (but us for some reason despite having them quite low) global warming, as claimed by the ipcc, is innevitible. Nevermind when Africa begins to fully industrialise

Why stop there? Why not make it so electric cars cannot be made using fossil fuels. Starting from extracting the raw materials. This means no plastic since plastic is petroleum, no oil to lubricate the electric motor bearings, no steel since steel requires coke, and no synthetic rubber for tires. Since we can't use ships and planes, all resources must be sourced locally, refined locally, with the products manufactured locally in factories that aren't made from steel or concrete. We can't use trucks or diesel-electric trains either so all goods must be transported by horse and carriage. Actually horses emit carbon dioxide so we would just use humans pushing carts. And humans emit carbon dioxide too so actually none of this would work and we should all just kill ourselves.

Here's the elephant.
Lets assume you could replace every car in existence with an electric car.
But there's one problem. There aren't enough rare metals in the world to make batteries for all of them.
Even if you only replace 20% of all cars with electric, the rare metal resources would be exhausted within a few decades. Recycling the metals will extend it for another few years, but at that point it becomes exorbitantly expensive.

Here is what no is is telling you. Fossil cars will be phased out, but we will not see everyone driving electric cars instead. Electric cars will only be for the very wealthy and for the Government services ( police, fire, medical ). The rest of you will be walking, cycling or taking buses.

Transition to clean electricity generation and electrification of transport are two different technologies that are both required for clean transport. They do not need to be completed at the same time or in a specific order, it's good that they are developing in parallel.

There's an alternate universe where clean electricity happened first but OP is no more or less intelligent, and in that reality their retarded post is pointing out the "hypocrisy" of closing all the coal, oil, and gas power stations before everyone has stopped using gasoline powered vehicles.
