what is the evidence for supporting antidepressant use chronically?
i've been on SSRIs since i was 19, now 25. i've come off them a few times and stayed off for about 6 month periods, but i always find life more enjoyable on them, so i always return.
there are many different classes of antidepressants, but it seems that they are misused in that they are "intended" to be used as an adjunct for therapy, and to be discontinued once the person has developed sufficient coping skills to no longer need the drug.

Since medical school was a lot easier to get into in the past considering today's higher average GPAs and MCAT scores, doesn't that mean that medical school isn't that hard considering those past cohorts made it through fine with lower GPAs and MCAT scores?

>> No.14691510

>>14691436
it means that people are studying better for the MCAT, MCAT and GPA are correlated. Also college is getting earlier. The same number of people are getting in, number applying hasn't increased. I'm applying right now with a shit GPA wish me luck

>Research on SSRI discontinuation is thin
no no no, i'm not asking how to quit taking antidepressants. i'm familiar with tapering procedure and discontinuation syndrome.
i mean to ask what consensus is there on chronic use of antidepressants, considering they are "intended" as adjuvants for therapy, rather than a life-long "cure"

>> No.14692346

they cause dry mouth, so your dental health might suffer on the long term. You might also have sexual dysfunction as a result of using SSRIs, which might prevent you from living life to the fullest.
