Religions take that which is good for the group, and declare it to be the will of God.

Thus religions are subject to Darwinian evolution.
The vast majority of religions have adopted enforced monogamy. The exceptions develop under exceptional conditions, such as islam developing in a culture where most men are killed in constant wars.

Enforced monogamy is extremely important for the health of a society under most conditions.

For all its retardation the early Christian Church recognized that the major cause of conflict and inefficiency within a society is caused by sexual frustration in males. Which is why they made such a big issue out of monogamous marriage and the sanctity of marriage ( the Mormons are an exception and came along much later ).
When the vast majority of men have a wet hole to dip their cock into on a regular basis they become far more productive and personal conflicts become far less violent and destructive. This also explains the traditional Church's approach to keeping women out of power. The Church knew that once women got into any positions of power they would actively undermine the status quo.

But monogamy implies nothing of this. If we compare with monogamous animals, the women actually do the job while the male just competes with other males and then he just chills all day.
If we translate it to humans it would mean that the women should pick some chad and then take care of him completely while the chad does nothing but plays vidya all day
