Are bugs really a legitimate source of protein? It seems the financial elites are going to try phase out meat over the next decade or so.. but why are they choosing fucking bugs over something like algae?

You probably already eat chicken and turkey, why not eat pigeon instead.
Pigeons are everywhere, there wouldn't be any need for cruel battery farming, just go to the park and get yourself a nice, sustainable, echo friendly and low CO2 pigeon.
Yummy.

Pigeon is actually good, but I wouldn't eat feral pigeons from inner cities, for disease and toxicity reasons. Have you never tried wood pigeon?
Also, I don't eat chicken or pigeon, since I haven't eaten meat in about 10 years (with the occasional exception of accidental bacon in quiche or when my ex couldn't finish her schnitzel or so). So personally, I also eat neither shrimp, nor locusts.

They don't sound either financially nor environmentally more beneficial than traditional farming. I think there is an ulterior motive. I suspect either to take away farming revenue from white western nations by demonising a big part of it, or because eating food some way effects you spiritually. Why? You can farm insects in some basement. Chickens need more space, light etc.

If white western farmers are too dumb to farm insects, then they're more stupid than methheads with cockroach infestations.

Eating the bugs always reminds me of that movie Snowpiercer where the plebs were being fed some protein bars that apparently are not too bad wrt taste. In 2013, bugs were still not approved for human consumption. I remember some (in hindsight probably illegal) booth on a Christmas market that sold deep-fried locusts. Crunchy and tasty, but also somehow weird and unusual. I remember seeing the first insect burgers and "meatballs" in Switzerland before they were sold in Germany. It was a short hype when it was new, but to be honest I'm not sure if I've seen any insect-based food recently. It's not this huge transition.

But I seriously don't get why it's ok to eat shrimp, lobster, clams and snails, but mealworms and locusts are suddenly disgusting. To me, they all are. Imagine eating a whole small animal. Cultivated insects at least don't destroy the ecosystems at the bottom of the oceans.

Have you tried beyond and similar ground "meat"? This might have killed lab-grown cells as meat, since the market is no longer empty and there's a much higher pressure for low prices. Let's see what will happen, but I think by the time lab-grown meat is ready, it might actually be too late to compete with the plant-based ones. They'd need to offer an advantage, either price-wise (will be tough), or taste-wise. If they can replicate an actual steak, that's something that could work. The ones on the market today are meh. But if they need another few years, planted steaks might actually be decent.

No, very low quality. Same as that bag of fried pig skins. Says a lot of protein on the bag, but also with an asterisk that notes that it is not a good source of protein, because of non-bio-availability of it due to being denatured too much with cooking.
Even raw bugs are not a quality source of protein.

Beef is the only really high quality meat source of protein, along with certain species of fish.

Milk and eggs are also top tier.

Everything else is lower tier and will make people dumber and smaller and weaker over generations.

because its only about nutrition on the surface level

bugs and maggots are disgusting animals, thats why we are supposed to eat them

they rape you in the ass and abuse you like an adult can abuse a little child, its completely helpless
laws dont protect you, and immediately when rich people get in contact with the law you can see the difference
poor people get shot and beaten to a pulp by police, while affluent serial child rapists get invited to interviews

just abusing you like good cattle is just not good enough for them, they need that sweet extra bit of humiliation, thats why you will be forced to eat bugs
it is that way and no other way
