Well first of all do you have a loisance to do science?
If the answer is "No" then you may not do research on your own because it is unsafe for laymen to attempt research without proper regulation.

Thats a tricky one, since funding agencies need you to be affilliated with a university.

If you have a good reputation and is highly skilled, you could sub contract research for companies. But that requires connections and a lab.

What I would recomend is to research something interesting and start posting videos about it on social media. If your research is "cool" and you get followers, you can sell mugs and T-shirts to fund yourself.

A third option would be to invest money into some company that you really understand, and use the returns to fund your research. What helps is if this company does something that is close to your research field, because then you can easyly see if its a fraud or not.
