The first result on Google says its Gacrux, at 88 ly, which seems to be repeated by multiple sources. However there are other red giants that are closer, such as Aldebaran (65 ly) and Arcturus (37 ly). What's the actual answer?

Actual possible answer: Arcturus hasn't undergone the helium-flash. Some might consider it perimenopausal - not a red giant just yet. It's K type; Gacrux is M, truly red.
I think that argument is bollocks and that Arcturus should count as a red giant already.
