take the problem in it's simple, obvious form. Two equal circles, whose units really don't matter as long as you mention it in the answer (Although, radius=1 is pretty standard). Their centers are one radius away from eachother, so that both circles' centers are on eachother's circumference.

It's a diagram; it's meant to reference things. You're not looking for the number of fucking pixels in the shaded area, you're looking for what the shaded area refers to in geometry, after having identified what all of the other constituent parts refer to in geometry. If it's not natural to you, read a fucking book or something. Pick up euclid, spaz
