Metamaterials appreciation thread.

Soon we may have something capable of sustaining wormholes.

And then we shall conquer the stars, in our ancestors name.

That'll be glorious, but in the meantime, they're also pretty nifty.

Yeah EM invisibility is pretty cool.

On the downside if fitted to tanks or the like.

How do they contact each other and tell what's going on ahead of them? Sonar maybe?

Hmm, good question. Sadly, I don't have much in the way of an answer to that.

Well if it effects EM radiation like visible and infra red light I assume that other wavelengths like UV could be used quite easily.

And even if it was totally EM invisible it doesn't effect matter, at least not to my knowledge, so sonic pulses could be used as a sort of Morse code between divisions, armour and anything else stealthed.

>> No.1445328

How about those topological insulators eh?

>> No.1445329

They could always just shout real loud

>> No.1445331

Oh goody. Now we can be invisible in microwaves.

They're amazeballs, eh.

>> No.1445341

why does everyone have such a boner for these things?

just like all good military forces have night vision now, they will all just get sonar. would be fun to sneak up on arabs etc but useless against real enemies.

Kinda kills the idea of stealth though don't it.

"JAMESS WHEN DO YA WANNA KICK OFF THE ATTACK!!"

"JIMMY WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE UNDER FUCKING COVER!!"

"SORRY!!"

A conversation from an empty desert plain.

>> No.1445344

stupid question here...
if metamaterials can bend light to move around them, would it be possable to do so like a wing to create movement like some kind of photon lift/engine????

>> No.1445345

>>1445342

Then they'll have to whisper.

Sonar is inefficient out of water.

You could use a focused pulse of sound but to scan a large area that way would be slow laborious and you're likely to miss something.

Or whatever gets hit by the sonar pulse could be killed thanks to the pressure, not good if it happens to hit a friendly soldier.
