That's what I always ask when someone talks about time travel.

That, or there are time-travel guardians that protect the time from being distorted by keeping an eye on time travelers.

You can only go back to the point where the time machine was made or later. Otherwise you fuck up casuality and physics.

Universes that allow time travel (invented at any time within that universe) end up causing paradoxes that destroy their universe.

If we invent time travel, our universe too may cease to exist. It will be as if it never was.

Time travel to the past is probably impossible for that very reason. To the future is a different story.

Then why don't the future time travelers go to the past and then come to the present?

The most realistic theory is that you need a machine to be built to do time travel, it's the only way to have a "destination".

Another theory is that you must find the most ancient and functional time machine ever built in the universe, send your time machine trough it, or the means to build one, and get to earth. You will be in the past long before anyone has built a time machine on earth.

The catch, it's that you will be in a new universe, one created from the fact that time travel was avaiable earlier. You wont be able to go back to your timeline, unless you use the same time machine that brought you to this alternate time line, the suggested apporach is bring two: an exit route, and one to actually be used on that universe.

Several people have claimed to be from the future. One person who said he was from 2250 was arrested and put in a jail cell and disappeared later that night. Also, Time Dilation happens on a small-scale while in planes. it can happen on a large scale at galactic proportions.

I know the question was if it IS possible. but steven hawkings has now changed his mind again and said that time travel into the past isn't possible, and he speaks funny so I'd tend to believe him.

Wouldn't you be somewhere else in the universe if you time traveled even a year? The time machine would have to move too, right?
