I think it's the way that you're saying it that makes it sound like there's a conflict. You guys have 3 total, the waiter has 2, and pizza hut has 25. You paid 27, 2 more than you had to, which went to the waiter. When thinking in terms of you paying 27 you need not consider "30". Or something - this is inherently confusing due to mixed concepts I believe.

Plus the $2 kept and $3 returned gives original $30. This isn't a riddle, this is kind of synonymous with a language teacher confusing his students because he doesn't really know the language he's teaching. Same thing here, Maths is a language and there was a bad translation between it and English

Now that each of us had been given $1 back, we've all paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The waiter kept $2, which is substracted from those $27, making the total paid $25 and $2 dollars lost to the waiter. Now you have $27 dollars paid, and $3 the waiter gave you back.

The problem is that the faggot who made this duplicated the $2 kept by the waiter.
Those $2 are included in the $27 they paid, so in reality they only paid $25, plus $2 the waiter kept. Now that they paid $27 total, the waiter gave them back $3. That's it.

There is no remaining dollar.

PROBLEM SOLVED

You say that each paid 9 dollars, which you added to the total, but that throws $3 away which should be added to the total +2 from the waiter. 25 + 3 + 2 = 30.

The waiter should have returned the $5 and you should all have said no probs and tipped him the $5 for being honest.
