/sci/ I have a serious problem.

I was at pizza hut yesterday with two of my buddies. The waiter says the bill is $30, so each of us pays $10. Later the waiter realized the bill should only be $25. The manager realised and told him to give us $5 back. On the way back to us, the waiter realized that he couldn't divide the money equally. Since we didn't know the total of the revised bill, the bastard decided to give each of us just $1 back and keep $2 for himself.

Now that each of us had been given $1 back, we've all paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The waiter kept $2. If all three of us together originally paid $30, what happened to the remaining $1?

I think it's the way that you're saying it that makes it sound like there's a conflict. You guys have 3 total, the waiter has 2, and pizza hut has 25. You paid 27, 2 more than you had to, which went to the waiter. When thinking in terms of you paying 27 you need not consider "30". Or something - this is inherently confusing due to mixed concepts I believe.

You've almost got it. Yes... everyone has paid 9 dollars, which is $27... two dollars more than the $25 you actually should have paid. The two dollars were stolen by the waiter.

Alternately: You paid $30... and after receiving $3 back you've paid $27. The pizza only cost $25. 27-25 = the 2 dollars the waiter stole.

You have paid $9 and kept $1 each. The total paid is $27 and you remain with $3. The waiter kept $2 so now you only have $28.

You say the total paid is $27 and the waiter kept $2, and then translate to mathematics badly by adding the $2 to the $27, you should subtract the $2 from the $27 which gives you the $25 you were supposed to pay. Plus the $2 kept and $3 returned gives original $30. This isn't a riddle, this is kind of synonymous with a language teacher confusing his students because he doesn't really know the language he's teaching. Same thing here, Maths is a language and there was a bad translation between it and English

>> No.1363352

I know its written in a way to be sneaky, but if each person gave 10, got 1 back, then they all paid 9 each. thats 27, the waiter kept 2, I really don't understand where the last dollar went.

ITS PISSING ME OFF MAN

You can make the error in logic obvious by pretending it was ONE DOLLAR PIZZA DAY! The manager gives the waiter back the thirty dollars. He pockets $26 and gives one dollar to each of the three friends.

Now they've each paid $9 for a total of $27 plus the $26 the waiter kept makes $53!!! Where did all that money come from?

You can make the error in logic obvious by pretending it was FREE PIZZA DAY! The manager gives the waiter back the thirty dollars. He pockets $27 and gives one dollar to each of the three friends.

Now they've each paid $9 for a total of $27 plus the $27 the waiter kept makes $54!!! Where did all that money come from?

They paid a total of $27... exactly two more than they should have paid: $25. Those two dollars are in the waiter's pocket. The waiter didn't add them, he SUBTRACTED them.

>> No.1363403

>>1363395
....and they're not wrong. Each of them has paid $9 when they should have only paid $8.33. Waiter stole their $2.00!

>> No.1363418

Now that each of us had been given $1 back, we've all paid $9, bringing the total paid to $27. The waiter kept $2, which is substracted from those $27, making the total paid $25 and $2 dollars lost to the waiter. Now you have $27 dollars paid, and $3 the waiter gave you back.

>> No.1363424

The problem is that the faggot who made this duplicated the $2 kept by the waiter.
Those $2 are included in the $27 they paid, so in reality they only paid $25, plus $2 the waiter kept. Now that they paid $27 total, the waiter gave them back $3. That's it.

>> No.1363426

There is no remaining dollar.

You all paid 27. Get refunded 1 dollar each. Thats 3 dollars, while the waiter keeps 2 bucks. That's 5 out of the 30.

Yeah.

Here's another example of FREE PIZZA DAY with a less greedy waiter: He gives back $27 and only pockets $3. Therefore each of the friends has paid $1 apiece, plus the $3 the waiter took adds up to $6...

WHERE DID THE OTHER TWENTY FOUR DOLLARS GO?!??!!

PROBLEM SOLVED

>> No.1365161

You say that each paid 9 dollars, which you added to the total, but that throws $3 away which should be added to the total +2 from the waiter. 25 + 3 + 2 = 30.

>> No.1365194

The waiter should have returned the $5 and you should all have said no probs and tipped him the $5 for being honest.
