If you make that metal wall 2 pixels wide, it doesn't happen. The metal isn't conducting heat in any fashon, the particles are just able to interact over a one pixel gap made by the metal.

There are a number of other experiments you can do to prove this, the game really doesn't simulate any form of temperature.

You just have a clone dot dropping plutonium in somehow, and have a thing layer of the stuff spread out on metal. Use metal reflectors to control how many neutrons get reflected back into the Pu and you'll get fairly steady gradual fission.

This is my prototype plutonium power core. It's not hooked up to anything yet.

The idea is the plutonium keeps pouring out of the clone, and the diamond panels confine the neutron flux at just the right level to promote a slow sizzling fission reaction.

To my great shame, I had to prime it with a neutron pulse to get it going.
