Has anyone here ever been treated with homeopathic medicine? I have had family members been completely cured of illness by using these products.

>> No.1295192

I have been completely cured of illness while using these products. Didn't shave off any time from being cured by my own immune system and regenerative abilities, but I wanted to humor my kooky aunt.

my mom used to give me only homeopathic medicine and it always worked fine for me, even though I never believed in that stuff.
seems to be more than just placebo..

The common cold will go away on its own in seven days, but you can bring that down to just a week with homeopathic medicine.

homeopathy == placebo effect.

It does not cure.

>> No.1295345

To be fair, most people could do with a higher intake of water. So homeopathy could aid in curing a variety of symptoms.

Unfortunately for the homeopathists, straight water helps just as much as the additives.

You realise the placebo effect can cure right

>> No.1295400

For a substance to qualify as "cure", it needs to preform better than a placebo. A placebo is not a cure.

i'm not sure if that is correct.

New medicines are compared to placebos in clinical trials. If a medicine preforms no better than the placebo group it's effects are considered non-existent.

If it helps, who cares if it's because of the placebo effect and whether it can be calles "cure" or not?
(By "help" i don't mean that you only feel better, but that the disease is actually gone)

>> No.1295473

>>1295437
The placebo effect relies on subjective experience of a disease. Something like a headache is reported as less intense while the actual effects are still there. Homeopathy is fine if people don't mind spending money on that sort of thing to combat something innocent like a cold, but I have a problem with it when people pretend that it cures diseases where the placebo effect has no effect on. Things like bronchitis or cancer for instance. People with no medical knowledge believe it works and spend money on something that is doing jack-shit.

but a placebo counts as a cure. so if the medicine performs, like a placebo, then it must be a placebo, and if a placebo is a cure, then the medicine must be a cure.

You know, if we don't get rid of this kind of shit before we get into contact with some alien species, I'm going to disguise myself as some other species.

It's just really fucking embarrasing to be of the same species as people who believe in homeopathy.

1. people have died because they chose/forced homeopathic medicine over conventional medicine.
taking a bullshit medicine means you're not taking proper medicine, for a cold this is not important, but for whooping cough in children etc its serious.

2. homeopaths make outrageous and harmful claims, including that conventional medicine will kill you, conventional medicine will infact induce the disease that its supposed to cure (i shit you not, they believe that penicillin will cause syphillis)

3. you're essentially giving a "as long as they are happy argument", which in itself is a validation of any religion, cult, brainwashing, labotomy, drug taking, mind washing, etc
"sure he thinks hes a penguin, BUT HE'S A HAPPY PENGUIN"

that said, im going to sleep

>> No.1295499

Homeopathy is an evil racket. The people who practice it aren't stupid - you can't run a business and be THAT stupid - so I can only assume they're just cold-blooded psychopaths.

But no, it doesn't.

That's what the word placebo means, something that doesn't work.

Yes it does. That's why scientists are so confused about it, it shouldn't have any effect at all but it speeds up recovery times of all sorts e.g. surgery wounds, broken bones. It can also be responsible for negative effects (although for some reason in this context, it's called nocebo)

The efficacy of a placebo is directly proportional to the level of bullshit on the part of the patient.

Homeopathy is a great career choice, potential 300k starting thanks to the never-ending supply of idiots willing to hand over their money for bottles of water. If you want a premium product, add some orange food dye to some "lotion" and sell it as "synthetic arnica gel".

To rule out investigator bias. A double blind study is impossible if you only give one group medicine. Pure placebos are hardly ever used in clinical trials but the effects of new cures are compared to conventional ones.
