Look at open problems for motivation on what you want to solve. Look at proofs (and find out how proofs were developed/inspired - history of math) to learn how to solve things and make proofs, as well as to get you up to speed with current knowledge. If you need to study a couple of textbooks to understand the proofs, ok. But just calculooting isn’t enough.

Why were girls cuter in the past?
Another good example of this archetype is Jennifer Connelly. You just don't find girls like this anymore.

Then you're on the path to genius.

How are his books? It would be nice to buy from a cohesive set so they all sort of share a style and don't overlap in info or leave gaps, but I hate when textbooks are really dry.

I can only speak for algebra (which is a monster classic, really a desk reference) and undergrad analysis. Lang is pretty candid, exercises are good, but he's a little abstract sometimes
