One that is 100% financed by the DoD, which draws its revenue from tax dollars. Therefore SpaceX is a privately owned, publically funded entity.

So the question remains, 100 million, 200 million American taxpayer dollars pissed away by Elon yet again for something that would work if they just studied NASA blue by prints from 60 years ago?

>This paper shows quantitatively that theCOTS development and later the operational Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) are significant advances in affordability by any measure.
>The most significant improvement, beyond even the improvementsof 2-3Xtimes reviewed to here, wasin the development of the Falcon 9 launch system, with an estimated improvement at least 4X to perhaps 10X times over traditional cost-plus contracting estimates, about $400 million vs. $4 billion.

Deleuzian hypothesis that society is a conflict between the aesthetically-ugly and the capitally-successful. Bio-Leninism is a transverse-Marxist (Deleuzian) connector of Foucalt (biopolitics) and Marx. BioLeninism proffers that rather than a conflict between rich and poor; politics is a conflict between the rich and ugly.

Yes that is correct Amerimutt, we and the entire world knows you're terrified of China because they're outcompeting you in just about everything and they didn't need to do it with sanctions and tariffs, foreign meddling, assassinations, false flags, invasions, never-ending wars spanning generations running up kill counts in the tens of millions, rigged regime changes with loyalist puppets, mass global surveillance or pitting smaller countries against each other through proxy, they did it through sheer meritocracy and mutually negotiated diplomacy.

A world without Zogbots in charge is a far more peaceful and prosperous place. Just ask yourself, how many nations are allied to your country not through fear of death and destruction but choice? Now China and Europe. I thought so. The American experiment has failed and is crumbling from within. You are a far too immature people to ever properly govern something as monumental as the world, it is only appropriate the role is returning to where its seat once lay for thousands of years. After all, you only had the reigns for but a blink of the eye post-ww2, and that chapter has come to a close. No one is impressed with your Zionist McEmpire and it will not be remembered in high regard.

Musk advertised his Cybertruck glass as being 20 times stronger than conventional windshield glass, yet it shattered from a mild bump caused by a golf ball which doesn't even leave a gash on the average car's glass.

Is this why his rockets keep blowing up and failing? I'm so confused, I was told he's some kind of savant yet everything consistently performs below pedestrian standards.

In order to fly a rocket, you have to get government approval. Government says "you can only launch on this day, during this time period, and you have to make sure NO ONE enters this area". Well, someone just entered the area. Usually it is boomers in boats or airplanes or cars who try to sneak up close to the rocket. When this happens, SpaceX has to cancel everything due to laws

There's vomit on his sweater already, jello baby

What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's choking, how? Everybody's joking now
The air's run out, time's up, over—blaow!
Snap back to reality, ope there goes gravity, ope
There goes father, he choked, he's so mad but he won't
Give up that easy, no, he won't have it, he knows
His whole back's to these ropes, it don't matter, he's dope
He knows that but he's broke, he's so stagnant, he knows
When he goes back to this printed home, that's when it's

Speaking of this, do we know how high it would be able to go "as is" from Earth without its SuperHeavy on the ass? I remember Elon memed up using Starship in the future for intercontinental flights, but I already have a hard time believing such a future to be possible, but I have an even more harder time believing such a future if it needs the superheavy anyway. Surely it should be able to go high enough on its own if that's something he envisions.

Yes, although the original carbon aspirations for starship were exotic and cool, making repairs would be an absolute nightmare. I have done both composites work and welded steel in my life and the former would be incredibly difficult in a suit on another planet or in orbit. Whereas spraying a fuck-it-just-cover-it-in-metal bead with a MIG gun is so easy a toddler can do it.

I'm not associated with the SpaceX engineering team you actual schizophrenic.
They solved every issue preventing a landing, but SpaceX is known for hard landings even on the falcon boosters to this day. It's also known they are trying modified falcon GNC code to fly the starship, so by process of deduction since all physical issues barring landing had been solved they would indeed land. But hard. And this is what we saw happen. Recent comments by SpaceX engineers mention the falcon 9 requires only 1psi difference between the common prop domes internally for the dome to then invert and rip the feedpipe free from it's mount allowing kerosene and lox to mix and explode. So given that information we expect a successful but hard starship landing, a resulting leak and fire causing a weakening of a known suspect thrust puck design and boiloff of the remaining methane which eventually causes a failure and explosion as we saw. It wasn't hard to see what was coming. They'll fix it. They always do.

Okay, so it's easy to say that actually maneuvering and landing the starship is successful. The biggest issue now is landing legs that can absorb the shocks of landing. How will we solve this?
I have an idea involving inflatable legs and pistons.
>Four extendable legs with two inflatable pads per leg on each tip acting like "toes" are embedded into aerodynamic fairings on the thrust base of the starship
>They extend and bend outwards like the falcon 9's legs
>The twin bags on each leg tip inflate like the airbags that protected Spirit and Opportunity
>The starship lands on the legs, then slowly retracts the air and the legs
I call it the CBT parachute.

0:00:700, the crumple zone stops right where the cargo bay in the rocket would be. That shows that for a test article, the pressure gradient that is maintained in the empty tanks is actually ENOUGH to massively limit the wave front from the explosion. While all crew on said rocket would be dead in THIS test case (hypothetical), they would still technically survive within the confines of their habitation space.

That's still super interesting. I'm betting that because they came down with 3 raptors and then shut down to one, they slowed down enough to land but the TWR for a single raptor may not be enough at the % thrust they have it at during the final moments.

The rocket DID bounce VISIBLY. This is a concern, because even empty, Starship is seriously fucking heavy. The vibration, coupled with a potentially failed leg (it was leaning), probably meant that something got dislodged or some internal part failed. This led to a containment loss, so fuel flowed downwards from the tank (whatever was left) and made contact with the very hot engines. The heat transferred and ignited the methalOx.

If you follow the explosion sequence, the explosion starts in the top of the set of rings above where the engines are and moves downwards. Enough fuel eventually ignites in the explosion, that the wave front tears apart the bottom section and takes the 3 engines with it. Most of the initial explosion is ridirected back into the engine skirt and that disassembles rapidly while simultaneously launching the rest of the vehicle straight up.

So for SN11 to SN15, they will likely have to significantly reinforce the landing skirt and engines. Also will have to investigate maybe firing 2 raptors down to landing, but throttling them lower instead of having 1 raptor and throttled lower.

>> No.12785058

They're going to extend the raptor throttle range to allow slightly lower thrust, which gives them the extra 1-2s of burn time required to properly null out their speed before touchdown. Elon mentioned this recently. They had to execute the three raptor burn low, they had a warning of high thrust on the earlier attempt so the thrust profile wasn't 100% characterized for the landing burn and as a result it landed hard.
This isn't fixed by goofy airbag legs.

They did, but it came in too hard and they throttled up to prevent a RUD, but Raptor's TWR is insanely off the charts for a nearly empty vehicle. So it basically hit the ground and bounced up like 5 meters; so they cut the engines and it dropped again.

BASICALLY:

>Landing impact: major vibration event
>bounce: gain potential energy
>engine cut off: convert potential to kinetic energy
>bounce impact (permanent): major vibration event

Something DEFINITELY CAME LOOSE.

ADDITIONALLY, IN HERE: >>12784827, >>12785057;

If you follow the sequence of explosions, towards where the header tank is and the fuel pipe that LIKELY travels the length of the skin, when the bottom explosion happens, the near top of the rocket implodes; basically signalling a pressure loss.

75% positive that a double major vibration event decoupled some major feed line, leading to fuel leakage on to volatile mixing triggering the initial fire/explosion, until it all made contact with the dead hot Raptors and that escalated that to full RUD.

I don't understand what you're saying here, it's unlikely that the remaining engine was either at 100% thrust or at the lowest level of throttling they can maintain so they should be able to fix the issue without needing to switch to two engines. We also don't know if the bounce was related to coming into fast, poor engine shutoff timing, or the poor landing leg design that wasn't locked in place and/or couldn't take the kinetic energy.

They're directly correlated, this only happened because the SpaceX isn't yet infected with globohomo to the point where they're incapable of real progress.

Much like nobody cared anymore about Apollo past 11. Or rather I'll be gentle, past 12.

Advancements in space have only happened when spearheaded by a strong leader figure. Engineering credit of course goes to a team of thousands, but without a Musk of a Von Braun at the helm to serve as a visionary, progress stagnates.

Great man interpretations of history are often reductive, but still hold some truth.

With that logic, you could argue that the first rockets on the space race were of Nazi engineering.

That is a minor fix. Starship is sound in every aspect, they just need to iron details. Is going to be glorious to see it fly from now on.

TWR on Raptor is ~1.5x. Raptor can also deeply throttle down to something like 35%. Single engine landing if you don't have the % control down to touchdown perfect is going to be either too slow (run out of fuel) or too fast (bounce). A mostly empty ship ~10 meters off the ground on a single raptor at anything but the lowest thrust would come bounce backup once it touched down because of this. So the goal is to do 2 engines deeply throttled to make a more controlled descent to touchdown. That's likely why SpaceX chose two engines for landing and not 1.

No such a thing on Moon or Mars or any other celestial body in the solar system. If you can land a ship on Moon or Mars, you can land it on Ceres, Mercury (dark side), Titan, Europa, Ganymede, Pluto/Charon, etc. SpaceX can revisit in the future when Starlink prints them $50Bn/yr in cash to make planetary specific Starships geared around the type of conditions observed; but until then, better to do make a one sized fits all approach as much as possible.
