he made the first high level programming language and released the first actually functional computer to the public market. IBM knew of him and his research early on, they bought some of his patents I think, he also inspired a version of Algol. Then Siemens bought his computer company. Zuse's binary based design for floating point numbers is still very relevant obviously too. And most of his work he did alone in isolation.
I've read comments online where people explain his lack of fame by saying Zuse didn't affect anything in the long run before they go on about Babbage/Ada and Turing as the founders.
It's nonsensical drivel, Turing deserves a spot for theoretical computer science sure, and while Babbage worked on an interesting machine his accomplishments lay in building and designing important machines for the industrial revolution.
While Turing is certainly overrated he deserves a spot of notable people in the history of computing. Babbage is as connected to it in a semi "similar" way to how the Antikythera mechanism is connected to it honestly. Ada was his assistant and a mathematician, just pushed.
She doesn't even have to be pushed to show women in the field, Hamilton was good for the engineering principles needed for good software, Hopper made one of the first linkers and Booth made good contributions to assembly language.
There's no single inventor of the computer and computer languages, it's all very interconnected but Zuse should be recognized as the giant he is.
